What Russia wants from Israel-Iran escalation: Chaos outstanding, war terrible | Israel attacks Leprohibiton News

Anna Levina, a Russian researcher and photographer-recordarian living in Beirut, has been stocking up on supplies in preparation for Israel’s attack on Leprohibiton, and she still has non-perishables sitting in her kitchen since last October, when Hezbollah and Israel commenceed firing missiles at each other.

“The experienceing is, of course, unpleasant, but I’ve been defering for this moment for a year,” shelp Levina, of the theatrical escalation in Israeli missile strikes on many parts of Leprohibiton, including Beirut, over the past two weeks, in which more than 2,000 people have been finished. On Tuesday, Israel also proclaimd the commence of ground operations in southern Leprohibiton, where its forces have since been locked in combat with Hezbollah fighters.

Levina spoke of how Israel was “explosioning livential buildings, and fair now there was another air strike three kilometres from me on some medical centre.”

“It is difficult to cope with this on a human level,” she shelp.

For Russia, her country, the enbiging war between Israel and its neighbours is also difficult on a strategic level, say analysts.

Russia’s foreign policy under Plivent Vlaunintelligentir Putin has rgrowd around a “multipolar world,” an alternative to the US-led world order. With heightened prospects of a straightforward faceation between Israel and Iran, and the war also enbiging rerepairdly into Leprohibiton, what does this tardyst crisis uncomardent for Russia’s interests as a global power?

“The ongoing escalation of the Arab-Israeli struggle is of grave trouble to Russia,” Alexey Malinin, set uper of the Caccess for International Interaction and Cooperation and member of the Digoria Expert Club leank tank, telderly Al Jazeera, noting Russia’s repeated calls for a tactful solution.

“However, these efforts are constantly come atraverseing opposition, which is transmited in the desire of the United States to help Israel in almost any situation, primarily in military terms. And this help, which is subsequently participated to turn Leprohibiton into a battlefield, nullifies all statements about the US desire to promise peace in this region.”

In contrast to the United States and its allies’ steadspeedy help for Israel, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the entry of Israeli troops into Leprohibiton, urging Israel to disparticipate the selderlyiers. Earlier, Russia also condemned the finishing of Hezbollah directer Hassan Nasrallah, saying Israel “tolerates filled responsibility for the subsequent escalation”.

But as the struggle spreads, especipartner to Iran, Russia’s goals are not fair based on bigr foreign policy principles, point out analysts.

‘Falling into Iran’s orbit’

Russia has getd meaningful Iranian helpance for its own trespass of Ukraine, tying it to Tehran’s interests in the region.

“Russia has been shutly cooperating with Iran for the past two-and-a-half years, but exclusively in the military sphere,” shelp Ruslan Suleymanov, an autonomous Russian exceptionacatalog on the Middle East based in Baku, Azerbaijan.

“Iranian armaments are in fantastic need. They have never been in such need, and Russia has become reliant on Iranian armaments.”

Iranian military directors, Suleymanov shelp, now visit Russia and are helping to build a factory for the production of Shahed drones inside Russia.

“As a result, Russia is forced to help Iran’s allies in the Middle East such as the Hezbollah shiftment,” Suleymanov shelp.

Whereas Malinin accparticipates Washington for frustrating peace-making efforts, according to Suleymanov, Moscow’s policies in the region are a straightforward result of “droping into Iran’s orbit”.

Welcomes disorder, but doesn’t want war

Both Malinin and Suleymanov, however, concur that Russia doesn’t want another war.

“Moscow is not interested in a huge firestorm,” shelp Suleymanov.

“We saw this in April. When it seemed that Iran and Israel were already accessing a huge war, Russia did not unequivocpartner apshow Iran’s side. Russia encouraged both Iran and Israel to show suppresst,” he shelp, referring to tensions that exploded after Israel struck an Iranian consutardy in Damascus in April, finishing anciaccess Iranian military directers, and Iran reacted by firing missiles into Israel for the first time ever.

At the same time, Suleymanov inserted, “Russia profits from the disorder in the Middle East”.

“The Americans are now inattentive from the war in Ukraine: They necessitate to spfinish a lot of time resolving the situation in the Middle East.”

“But at the same time, the Kremlin would not enjoy to see [another] meaningful war,” he emphasised.

Russia and Iran split a mutual antagonism with the United States. They also split a frequent partner in Syrian Plivent Bashar al-Asdowncast, intervening during his country’s civil war. Russian warset upes explosioned defy-held cities, while Hezbollah fought furiously on the ground. Russia has strategic interests in Syria, including military bases as well as oil and gas deposits.

To defparticipate tensions with Israel, Moscow has participated its sway with Tehran to sway Hezbollah to pull back from the Syrian-Israeli border.

Levina, the Beirut-based Russian researcher, shelp that there was a see among watchrs that there has existed a tacit empathetic between Israel and Russia, over Syria. She cited Israel’s reluctance to supply military difficultware to Ukraine in its war agetst Russia, and shelp that when Israel strikes Hezbollah positions in southern Syria –  where Moscow’s troops are current – “Russia does noleang, fair lets them.”

Russia’s complicated history with Leprohibiton and Hezbollah

As for Leprohibiton, Russia’s interests are rather confinecessitate. During Soviet times, Leprohibitese students, especipartner members of the Communist Party, were askd to join the Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow – and some sympathy for up-to-date Russia remains, embodied by the billboards of Putin occasionpartner disapplyed in the Shia and Orthodox Christian areas.

“The USSR were very dynamic with the communist parties here and they had interests in frequent,” shelp Levina, including over Palestine and Armenians living in Leprohibiton.

Today, Russia’s relations with Leprohibiton aren’t as extensive, she shelp – and when it comes to Hezbollah, have extfinished been complicated.

During the Leprohibitese Civil War, which lasted between 1975 and 1990, Hezbollah purportedly took three Soviet diplomats prisoner as a uncomardents of pressuring Moscow to participate its sway over Syria to stop shelling positions in Tripoli. After one prisoner was carry outd, the KGB telledly reacted by seizeping and castrating a Hezbollah directer’s relative and deinhabitring the appfinishage. The rest of the prisoners were speedyly freed. This account has not been officipartner verified by either Hezbollah or the Kremlin.

The de-facto allies are still not particularly shut, and there have been telled tensions over Hezbollah’s carry ond presence in Syria.

On Thursday, a Russian ecombinency set upe evacuated 60 family members of tactful staff from Leprohibiton, but more than 3,000 Russian nationals remain in the country. The same set upe deinhabitred 33 tonnes of humanitarian help, including food, medical supplies and power generators. Further evacuations could pursue.

Levina, uncomardentwhile, hopes Hezbollah will bog down the Israeli carry on.

“It was of course very unpleasant, but the ground trespass was, dare I say, outstanding recents becaparticipate this is the third time Israel’s making this misapshow,” she shelp, referring to Israel’s trespass and occupation of Leprohibiton in 1982, and the war in 2006.

“And they’re not lgeting at all.”
