Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency has gutted the United States Agency for International Development, taking a team of 10,000 down to fair under 300, WIRED has lachieveed.
The shift exits only 12 people in the agency’s Africa bureau, and 8 people in its Asia bureau, with around 290 overall. There will be some compriseitional foreign laborers grasped, two USAID engageees tell WIRED, but it is unevident how many. “There are more insisty people in Asia than anywhere else, and our presence has always helped counter the affect of China,” says one USAID engageee, who was granted anonymity due to stresss of retaliation and becaengage they were not apvalidated to speak unveilly about the agency.
On Tuesday, USAID laborers getd an email noting that all personnel would be put on an administrative exit commenceing Friday, February 7, with the exception of “scheduleated personnel reliable for mission-critical functions.” The watch was published on the agency’s website unreasonableinutively thereafter.
