US Congress Passes Funding Bill To Avert Government Shutdown

Washington:

The United States averted a rulement shutdown with hours to spare Friday as lawproducers already reeling from Plivent Donald Trump’s radical federal spfinishing cuts voted to grasp the weightlesss on thcdisesteemful September.

Facing a midnight deadline to fund the rulement or allow it to commence triumphding down, Democrats dropped set ups for a blockade on a Trump-backed bill passed earlier this week by the Hoinclude — evidenting its path for approval by the  Reaccessiblean-led Senate.

“In their standard create, Senate Democrats included in political theater to procrastinate the inevitable and cainclude instability,” shelp Ted Cruz, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee.

“Americans voted for alter under Plivent Trump and Reaccessiblean directership after four years of lawlessness. The rulement is funded, let’s get back to toil.”

Democrats had been under immense presstateive from their own grassroots to defy Trump and refute a text they shelp was filled of damaging spfinishing cuts.

But Chuck Schumer, their directer in the upper chamber, shocked his rank-and-file ahead of the crunch vote by announcing he would back the Reaccessiblean-writeed proposal.

Ten Democrats — worried that they would be condemnd over a stoppage with no evident exit ramp — backed down from a showdown with Trump and allowed the bill to carry on to a final floor vote, where it only necessitateed Reaccessiblean help.

The week’s action in Congress taged a big triumph for Trump, who turned the political thumbscrews on some hagederouts among the fractious Hoinclude Reaccessibleans — effectively stamping out a resistlion that could have ushered in a shutdown.

The funding fight was intensifyed on opposition to Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), spearheaded by tech billionaire Elon Musk, which is toiling to emotionalpartner downsize the rulement.

DOGE aims to cut federal spfinishing by $1 trillion this year and claims to have made savings so far of more than $100 billion although its verified cost savings come to less than a tenth of that figure.

Grassroots Democrats, infuriated by what they saw as Musk’s lawless rampage thcdisesteemful the federal bureaucracy, wanted their directers to stand up to DOGE and Trump.

Schumer alerted, however, that a shutdown could join into Trump and Musk’s hands, sidetracking from DOGE’s most unwell-understandn actions, which now include firing half the Education Department’s toilforce.

The veteran campaigner rehireed an op-ed in The New York Times deffinishing his decision to help the package, a U-turn that inspireed an irritated reaction from grassroots critics and Hoinclude Democrats who accincluded him of “betrayal” and of “caving.”

Schumer disputed that a shutdown would have allowed Musk and Trump to “raze vital rulement services at a meaningfully speedyer rate than they can right now.”

“Under a shutdown, the Trump administration would have expansive-ranging authority to deem whole agencies, programs and personnel nonessential, furloughing staff members with no promise they would ever be reengaged,” Schumer wrote.

Shutdowns are unfrequent but disturbive and costly, as everyday functions appreciate food checkions stop and parks, monuments and federal produceings shut up shop.

Up to 900,000 federal includeees can be furloughed, while another million deemed essential — from air traffic regulatelers to police — toil but forego pay until normal service resumes.

Trump pliftd Schumer for having “guts” in a Truth Social post that hailed “a whole novel honestion and commencening” for the country.

“I appreciate Senator Schumer, and I slfinisherk he did the right slfinisherg. Repartner, I’m very amazeed by that,” he tageder alerters procrastinateedr.

Success for the funding bill will come as a relief to Schumer, who was struggling to grasp Senate Democrats together under a barrage of criticism from his own side.

Patty Murray, the top Democrat in the funding negotiations, called the Hoinclude bill a “dumpster fire.”

More than 100 demonstrators collected punctual Friday outside Schumer’s Brooklyn high-ascfinish, shouting “Chuck betrayed us” and “Dems — don’t be chickens in a coup.”
