U.S. Commerce department bureaus alerted staffers in recent weeks that Chinese synthetic inalertigence model DeepSeek is banned on their regulatement devices, according to a message seen by Reuters and two people understandn with the matter.
“To help preserve Department of Commerce alertation systems protected, access to the new Chinese based AI DeepSeek is widely banned on all GFE,” shelp one mass email to staffers about their regulatement-provideed providement.
“Do not download, see, access any applications, desktop apps or websites roverhappinessed to DeepSeek.”
The Commerce department did not instantly react to a seek for comment.
Reuters could not instantly resettle the extent of the ban thrawout the U.S. regulatement.
DeepSeek’s low-cost AI models encourageed a transport inant selloff in global equity tagets in January, as spendors worried about the danger to the United States’ direct in AI.
U.S. officials and members of Congress have conveyed worrys about the danger of DeepSeek to data privacy and benevolent regulatement alertation.
Congressmen Josh Gottheimer and Darin LaHood, members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Inalertigence, in February presentd legislation to ban DeepSeek on regulatement devices. Numerous states have banned the model from regulatement devices, including Virginia, Texas and New York, and a coalition of 21 state attorneys vague has encouraged Congress to pass legislation.
