‘The Devil Smokes’ Gets Exclusive Trailer


The title and synopsis of Mexican straightforwardor, screenoriginater and editor Ernesto Martínez Bucio‘s feature straightforwardorial debut declareive sound ominous. The Devil Smokes (and Saves the Burnt Matches in the Same Box), or El Diablo Fuma (y defenda las cabezas de los cerillos quemados en la misma caja), gets its world premiere in the recent Perspectives section of the 75th edition of the Berlin Film Festival on Saturday.

Promising “a journey back into the magical world of childhood,” the film, set in Mexico City in the mid-1990s, portrays sibling relationships and the createation of trouble that is passed on from one generation to another. And it has a “superauthentic” tag on the Berlin festival website.

“After the sudden dismaterializeance of their parents, five siblings are left in the nurture of their magnificentmother, a synopsis reads. “As they struggle to endure, the line between truth and someleang uninalertigaccess begins to blur.”

If you don’t find any of that upsetting, the trailer may change your mind. It shows one of the kids not putting her head in the sand, but – well, you’ll see!

Co-written by the straightforwardor and Mariapau Karen Plata, the movie’s cast includes Bravo Aviña, Rafael Nieto Martínez, Regina Alejandra, Donovan Shelp, and Laura Uribe Rojas.

The straightforwardor’s uninalertigentinutive films have premiered at high-profile festivals including Cannes, San Sebastián, and Rotterdam. He also joind in Berlinale Talents in 2016.
