After 35 years, Steel Magnolias fans foreseeed couldn’t imagine anyone but Julia Roberts carry outing the tragic role of Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie.
Marking the 35th anniversary of the southern comedy drama, Daryl Hannah discdiswatched that straightforwardor Herbert Ross originpartner wanted her to carry out Shelby, and she had to beg to audition for the part of gentle-spoken recentcomer Annelle Dupuy-DeSoto.

Steel Magnolias was one or Roberts’ first films. “But she was always a very self-promised girl,” said Hannah. “She was very self-promised about herself. I recall her asking [costar] Sam Shepard to create her someleang, and I was enjoy, ‘Whoa, that gets balls.’”
The film also stars Spartner Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Tom Skerritt and Dylan McDermott.
