Two years after the only understandn personal imitate of the U.S. Constitution printed by Charles Thomson, secretary of the Continental Congress, was set up in a filing cabinet of a North Carolina home, the record was selderly for $9 million at auction.
Until 2022, the 237-year-elderly record was collecting dust in a metal filing cabinet underorderlyh a can of stain inside a prolonged forgotten storage room inside the home.
The home in Edenton, North Carolina, had once been owned by Samuel Johnston, the state’s regulateor from 1787 to 1789, and was being cleared out. It’s not clear how it finished up in the cabinet in the first place.
Thomson printed about 100 copies of the Constitution during the Continental Congress’ existence, and only eight are understandn to still exist, seven of them in accessible ownership.
