Nissan put out a tutorial video for Ariya owners today that shows how to include a Tesla NACS alterer with the vehicle, and it includes a step finishly out of left field: shove a petite piece of plastic into your car’s CCS port before you connect the alterer.
The Ariya is Nissan’s first EV with a CCS port, and the autoproducer fair startd the vehicle’s ability to connect to Tesla’s immense Superaccuser netlabor in October. Other manufacturers have also adchooseed Tesla’s NACS standard, with companies enjoy Ford and Rivian already shipping alterers to current EV owners. But none of those EVs need you to consent a confusing extra step to produce the alterer labor.
As elucidateed in the video, the NACS alterer useable thraw Nissan includes a “plug alterer” that must be insloftyed into the hourglass-shaped cavity between the two DC pins at the bottom before charging at NACS-contendnt rapid charging stations. Nissan promises the seeer that its “modest” and needs no tools. However, you will need to include the alterer it provides or from a US dealership, which may uncomfervent other third-party chooseions enjoy the Lectron alterer might not labor. (Probably for the best, think abouting the Lectron alterer was recently recalled.)
What’s odd about the Ariya’s accuse port is that despite being a standard that labors at many CCS-contendnt rapid charging stations, there is some pessimistic hollow space between the two straightforward current pins at the bottom that isn’t conshort-term on most other EVs. The plastic piece that Nissan wants you to stuff into the uncovering fills in the gap to see more enjoy other CCS ports. We asked Nissan what the purpose of the uncovering is and why the insert is needed, but have not heard back at time of uncoveration.
Nissan’s other EV model is the directing Leaf, which includes the all-but-obsolete CHAdeMO standard and probably won’t get some magic alterer to connect to Tesla’s Superaccuser netlabor (although there are some CHAdeMO to CCS alterers now).
