New Road House Remake Casting Continues A Weirdly Specific Actor Trend

by Xtreme HD IPTV

  • The Road House remake has a strange trend of casting non-actors, and that decision was continued by the most recent casting announcement.
  • Post Malone will play a character named Carter in Road House, but his sparse acting and fighting experience makes him seem like an odd fit for the role.
  • The movie’s casting decisions may be a bad sign for Road House, as it could be prioritizing style over substance and trying to draw in viewers with recognizable celebrities.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House remake recently announced a new casting choice, and it continues the movie’s strangest trend. Road House is a remake of the 1989 film of the same name that starred Patrick Swayze. It follows Dalton, a professional bouncer who was hired to clean up a dangerous bar using his impressive fighting skills and interesting approach to violence. Gyllenhaal will be taking over the role Swayze originally portrayed, and while he seems like a good fit to play Dalton, other characters will be played by more unusual actors.

Road House has had its fair share of controversies during its development. The film’s director, Doug Liman, has taken issue with some behind the scenes decisions, and Liman said he would boycott Road House‘s release due to the movie going straight to streaming with no theatrical release. Jake Gyllenhaal is also significantly older than Daniela Melchior, who plays his love interest in the movie. Road House‘s release date is fast approaching, yet new characters are still being revealed. The most recent casting reveal is continuing the movie’s string of strange decisions around its actors, which is creating even more controversy.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House Remake Could Be What He’s Been Searching 14 Years For

Jake Gyllenhaal is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and his Road House remake might finally give him what he’s spent 14 years searching for.

Post Malone Continues The Road House Remake’s Weird Casting Trend

Squeeb (Austin Post/Post Malone) in Spenser Confidential

It was recently confirmed that Post Malone, a famous rapper, singer, and songwriter, will appear in Road House as a character named Carter. While he has some acting experience, as he appeared in both live-action movies like Spenser Confidential and animated films like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, he is not known primarily as an actor. It continues an odd trend, as Road House has a history of casting non-actors in prominent roles. Most notably, Conor McGregor will play Knox in the movie, though he wasn’t the first UFC fighter considered.

Years ago, Ronda Rousey almost starred in a failed Road House remake. While that was a separate project from the upcoming Road House remake, it seems the idea for casting transferred over. Rousey’s involvement in Road House made more sense than McGregor’s, though, as she had some previous acting experience in movies like The Expendables 3. McGregor has only been known as a fighter, and Road House will be his first foray into a scripted role. Only time will tell if Road House can turn McGregor into an action star, and whether casting him was the right decision.

Road House’s Latest Casting Announcement Is The Strangest Yet

Post Malone’s casting in Road House continues the odd trend for the movie, but it’s even stranger than previous developments. Rousey and McGregor’s casting, while unusual due to their lack of acting credentials, made sense for the film. They are both accomplished fighters, and their experience in UFC would lend itself perfectly to Road House‘s action scenes. If Road House‘s casting decisions are an indication that the movie will be prioritizing action over story, then Post Malone’s casting is the oddest decision yet. Post does not have extensive fighting experience, and his acting credentials are limited, so casting him was a confusing decision.

will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video on March 21.

Road House’s Casting Is A Red Flag For The Remake

Post Malone’s casting has raised some concerns that the movie could suffer from misplaced priorities. Since his role doesn’t seem to add much to either the action or the story of the movie, it’s possible that he was only included to increase the movie’s appeal, not its quality. It could be a sign that Road House will be focusing more on style than substance, which would not help its chances of success. The best way to get people to watch a movie is by making a good movie, not by casting likable celebrities, but Road House may have forgotten that lesson.

While casting fighters for a movie about bar brawls makes sense for the action scenes, and including a celebrity can increase a movie’s reach, those decisions leave the rest of the movie uncertain. Training actors to fight is an easier task than training fighters to act, and Road House may be making a mistake by casting non-actors. Without a solid story delivered by talented actors to rely on, the Road House remake will never live up to the original, even with more intense fights.

Even with all the controversy surrounding the movie and its cast, Road House still seems poised to be a success. Based on its trailers, Road House promises to have intense and wildly entertaining action scenes, powered by McGregor’s skills as a former fighter. The unorthodox casting decisions could also be pleasantly surprising and give McGregor and Post Malone a chance to shine in their roles. Road House has a lot of positives and negatives surrounding it, but it will likely still be a fun movie to watch.
