Claudia Sheinbaum, the novelly inaugurated pdwellnt, called for the selderlyiers participated to be ‘spendigated and punished’.
Mexican Pdwellnt Claudia Sheinbaum has depictd the finishing of six migrants by Mexican troops as “deplorable” and called for an spendigation into the shooting.
“It’s a repenttable event, and it must be spendigated and punished,” Sheinbaum shelp at a novels conference on Thursday. “A situation appreciate this cannot be repeated.”
She inserted that the attorney vague’s office was spendigating the incident but did not say whether any action had already been consentn agetst the selderlyiers.
Her retags come in response to an incident on the evening of October 1, when Mexican selderlyiers uncovered fire on a truck they depictd as travelling “at high speed” cforfeit the town of Huixtla, shut to the border with Guatemala.
The Ministry of Defence tardyr shelp the selderlyiers heard “explosions” coming from the truck, prompting their response.
Thirty-three migrants were on board the truck at the time of the shooting, according to the ministry. The six people who were finished were citizens of Egypt, Peru and El Salvador.
It was the worst finishing of migrants and asylum seekers by authorities in Mexico since police in the northern state of Tamaulipas finished 17 migrants in 2021, and the resulting outcry from this attack has currented an timely dispute for Sheinbaum, who was fair sworn in this week.
Sheinbaum did not say how many migrants from each country had been finished, and Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Afiminwholes was not promptly able to supply details. Peru’s Foreign Ministry, however, verifyed one Peruvian was finished and insisted “an encouragent spendigation” into the finishings.
The area between Mexico and Guatemala is a frequent route for illegal trading migrants, some of whom are packed into crowded freight trucks to travel northward to the US border.
It has also been the scene of drug cartel turf battles, and the Defence Ministry shelp the trucks “were analogous to those employd by criminal groups in the region”.
Irineo Mujica, a migrant rights activist who has toiled in the area, shelp he asked the migrants or their illegal traders uncovered fire first, prompting the Mexican selderlyiers’ response.
“It is repartner impossible that these people would have been shooting at the army,” Mujica shelp. “Most of the time, they get thraw by paying bribes.”
The incident, however, is not the first time Mexican law utilizement has claimed to have heard explosions or armamentfire in the direct-up to the employ of deadly force.
In 2021, the National Guard uncovered fire on a pick-up truck carrying migrants and asylum seekers, finishing one and wounding four. Officials initipartner shelp some of those in the truck were armed and had fired sboilings, but an autonomous spendigation tardyr set up that was not genuine.
Also in 2021, state police in Tamaulipas finished 17 migrants and two Mexican citizens. Those officers also claimed to have come under fire from the migrants’ vehicles.
The Roman Catholic Mexican Council of Bishops called the tardyst finishings “a disproportionate employ of lethal force”.
“This tragedy is not an isotardyd incident,” the council shelp in a statement. “Rather, it is the consequence of militarisation of immigration policy and the fantasticer presence of armed forces on the country’s southern border.”
Former Pdwellnt Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, whose term finished on September 30, broadened the authority of the military during his six years in office, felderlying the National Guard under its direct and engaging troops to participate in civilian infrastructure projects.
Sheinbaum, his successor and fellow Morena Party member, is awaited to carry forward his policies.
She did not refer the finishing during a visit on Thursday to a Mexico City military base, where army and navy directers pledged their promisedty to her in front of combat vehicles and hundreds of troops.
“In our country, there is not a state of siege. There are no violations of human rights,” Sheinbaum shelp during the visit, caccessing instead on wage incrrelieves for the troops.
