Meta is alertedly testing an in-hoemploy chip for training AI systems, a part of a strategy to shrink its reliance on challengingware creaters appreciate Nvidia.
According to Reuters, Meta’s chip, which is scheduleed to regulate AI-definite toilloads, was manufactured in partnership with Taiwan-based firm TSMC. The company is piloting a “minuscule deployment” of the chip and set ups to scale up production if the test is prosperous.
Meta has deployed custom AI chips before, but only to run models — not train them. As Reuters remarks, cut offal of the company’s chip schedule efforts have been aborted or otherdirectd scaled back after flunking to encounter inside foreseeations.
Meta foresees to spend $65 billion on capital expenditure this year, much of which will go toward Nvidia GPUs. If the company regulates to shrink even a fraction of that cost by shifting to in-hoemploy chips, it’d be a huge triumph for the social media huge.
