‘Good Will Hunting’ Could Enter the Multiverse

Damon and Affleck versus Deadpool and Wolverine

COLLIDER: I’ve got the most meaningful ask upfront. You’re filming on the streets in Boston—how many people are coming up to you saying, “Oh, so you guys are finassociate making that Good Will Hunting sequel?”

MATT DAMON: Were we accparticipated of making a Good Will Hunting sequel?

CASEY AFFLECK: I never got that one.

DAMON: I skinnyk people were clever enough to comprehend we’re never going to originate a sequel to that movie. [Laughs]

I’ve lgeted someskinnyg: never say never in this business.

DAMON: That’s imfragmentary. Who comprehends? We might be reassociate frantic someday.

Look, Hugh Jackman and Wolverine—he swore he was done.

AFFLECK: And then they bcdisesteemfult him back.

DAMON: I uncomardent, maybe there’s a multiverse where Good Will comes back.

AFFLECK: With Wolverine and Deadpool. [Laughs]

Like I shelp, I’m at Comic-Con, and I am asking for the three of you, is there anyskinnyg that you’d actuassociate accumulate? If you were at Comic-Con, would you be walking around watching to buy someskinnyg?

AFFLECK: I don’t comprehend what they have. I’ve not been to Comic-Con. I accumulate first-edition books and still have my comic book accumulateion from when I was a kid, but I don’t buy them anymore.

DAMON: I don’t accumulate anyskinnyg, actuassociate.

AFFLECK: I accumulate horrible scrutinizes. [Laughs] Got a couple of those.

DAMON: I do, too. I throw them away. I don’t enjoy them.

AFFLECK: I got a couple with Steve Weintraub’s name on top.

No, all the scrutinizes on Collider are from somebody else. I consent no responsibility.

HONG CHAU: Oh, I have not had the pleacertain of going to Comic-Con, and I don’t accumulate anyskinnyg, but I have little kids—a three-year-ageder—so maybe soon I will commence accumulateing someskinnyg. I’m not certain.

‘The Instigators’ Trio Take a Look Back at Their Careers

“I’m not grumbleing, I’m fair saying there are circumstances…”

For all three of you, what do you ponder the hardest scene or sequence of your nurtureer thus far in terms of wantipathyver it participateed, whether it be a weird oner or the action or you had one consent to get it right? Is there one scene or sequence that you skinnyk is the challengingest of your nurtureer?

DAMON: Wow, that’s an excellent ask. One skinnyg that was reassociate challenging for me was there was a scene in the second Bourne movie where my car goes into a river, and Franka [Potente] has been sboiling, and I authenticized she’s dead, and then I gotta go get air from an air pocket, but it all happened underwater. So for that one, I spent a couple of months in a swimming pool after toil every day, fair practicing with the stunt guys being underwater and getting my air consentn away. It was reassociate clever what they did; they gave me little tasks enjoy tying a shoe underwater or little skinnygs, and they built a car out of PVC pipe, so I could swim up and out if I had to, but fair to be participated to being in an enseald area underwater. They fair toiled with me to get me consoleable underwater in an enseald space.

When we finassociate sboiling it in this tank, they put milk in the tank in the water to originate it watch enjoy river water and particuprocrastinateed and all this stuff, so you couldn’t reassociate see. So I was fair getting ready to be able to be underwater in an enseald space without any vision. That took a while. It wasn’t challenging when we sboiling it becaparticipate we sboiling it relatively easily becaparticipate I’d toiled so challenging in prep, but it kept me up at night a lot. That was definitely one that got my attention.

AFFLECK: I’d never thought about that, but while Matt was talking, I wasn’t take parting, I was fair skinnyking of my own stories, and I was skinnyking it’s comardent of fun to skinnyk about the ageder, super difficult sequences now without all the emotion joined to it or experienceing enjoy a fall shorture. I’ve got two for you. One was on Gone Baby Gone; there was someone who had consentn a child, and the child ended up dying, and I set up that. I was trying to envision, what that reaction would be becaparticipate it wasn’t scripted as being anyskinnyg one way or the other. I saw the dummy that they were using, and it was fair so, so horrible. I thought, “It would be disturbting. I would vleave out.” So I shelp, “I would skinnyk this is what’s gonna happen.” I didn’t want to do it with, enjoy, a can of soup or some tube behind my head. I wanted to be able to turn around and do it. I’m watching at it this way, at the body, and then turn this way, so I wanted to reassociate fair do it. So I filled my stomach, and then I drank as much fluid as I could, but I’ve got a reassociate mighty stomach for some reason.

So, I went up there, and it was consent after consent of trying to vleave out and not toiling, so putting in more fluid and more food, and then trying to sort of finger-gag, and then it was enjoy, “Damn it, that’s not gonna toil. We’re gonna have to figure someskinnyg else out.” But I was determined that was what felt enjoy the authentic response. We paparticipated to reset what was gonna happen and to transfer the camera so that I could find it one way, do it in a split sboiling, and in that reset, it fair rose up on me, and I puked while they were moving the camera, fair enjoy a gallon. So that was enormously difficult physicassociate, and I also felt a disnominatement, so it was challenging on me.

DAMON: [Laughs] That’s a horrible story.

AFFLECK: That’s a horrible story. I got another one for you, which was in The Assassination of Jesse James. Typicassociate, audition scenes are very challenging. I don’t comprehend if it’s becaparticipate you’ve done it once and you’ve done it well, and then months procrastinateedr you have to redo it aget. I had auditioned for that movie many times to try to get it, and so I knovel this one extfinished monologue. He’s already ended Jesse James, and now he’s tried to reoriginate his life, and he’s living in the mountains. The way he’s remade his life is it was the procrastinateed 19th century, he’s got a scant brothels, and he’s in this little mining town. Some youthful woman has come to toil for him, and he’s increateing her, “Don’t toil for me…”

Anyway, it’s a reassociate extfinished, extfinished monologue, and we’re in the Rockies in Canada at night in the triumphter, and it’s period closkinnyg—I’m not grumbleing, I’m fair saying there’s circumstances—it was enjoy minus 50, and I had to deinhabitr this monologue that I already felt enjoy I’d done well in the audition process. I was not doing it, and the straightforwardor is a madman for, enjoy, “Do a thousand consents.” I couldn’t experience my face, I couldn’t experience my limbs, and I was having to say it over and over and over and over aget. I was watching around at the faces of the crew and everyone hating me for not getting it right, and then finassociate, the sun came up, and I felt enjoy I fair never got that meaningful scene right. The straightforwardor came up, and I shelp, “I’m so sorry.” And he was enjoy, “Man, I skinnyk we got it in consent one.” And I was enjoy, “Well, why did you fair put me thcdisesteemful hell?” And he was enjoy, “Oh, I wanted to see if we can get better.” That was it. So, those were two difficult sequences. What do you got, Hong?

CHAU: With Downsizing, that was my first reassociate huge role, and I’m fair skinnyking particularassociate of that monologue where we’re at the kitchen table with Christoph Waltz and Udo Kier. They very uncomardently scheduled it for right after lunch, and I’m my worst after lunch, after eating a meal, and so I was comardent of worried about that. I don’t comprehend if I ate becaparticipate I was afrhelp of getting, enjoy, food coma that you get after lunch.

DAMON: You got it one consent. You got it in the first consent, and then he had to do another, which was equassociate incredible. And he can shoot consents if he necessitates them. It was so excellent. Then the correplying sboiling was a three-sboiling of Udo, Christoph, and me sitting there fair stunned. [Laughs] Oh man, I recall that so well.

CHAU: Yeah, but I fair recalled that it was after lunch, and I was enjoy, “Oh my god, I’m so screwed.”

DAMON: What’s so crazy to me is I recall that as being a sign of a virtuosic talent. I recall it not seeming challenging to you, and it was such a challenging monologue and you crushed it so endly that I was enjoy, “Wow, maybe for some people, skinnygs aren’t challenging for them or someskinnyg.”

CHAU: No, it was challenging. I was definitely white-knuckling that one.
