ComingSoon caught up with Lukas Haas about his tardyst movie, High Rollers. The sequel to Cash Out, the heist film sees Haas rejoin with John Travolta and Quavo. Haas spoke about the distinct situation of filming a sequel before the first movie is out, talked about toiling on Spider-Noir with Nicolas Cage, and mirrored on slapping friend Leonardo DiCaprio in Inception. High Rollers is out in Theaters, On Demand, and on Digital begining today.
“Master thief Mason (John Travolta) is living the criminal’s dream: island-hopping with his crew and the cherish of his life, Decker (Gina Gershon), while floating on a sea of stolen cash. But his dream is shattered when his nemesis, the merciless Salazar, seizes Decker and forces Mason and his crew to try a csurrfinisher-impossible casino heist in swap for her return. Hedged in by Salazar’s equpartner merciless rivals, and with the FBI on his tail, Mason bets everyskinnyg in pursuit of both the big score and the ultimate jackpot: Decker’s life,” says the synopsis.
Tyler Treese: We spoke about Cash Out last time, and it’s very distinct to shoot a film and its sequel before the first film comes out. What was the biggest dispute going back to shoot that in a low turnaround? I presume there’s also preferables becaengage evidently everybody had that built-in understandnity and I skinnyk that shows in the film as well.
Lukas Haas: Yeah. It was basicpartner fair benevolent of comical. It was comical to be on set making the second one when the first one hadn’t even come out, you understand what I nasty? But everybody cherishd each other and had a fantastic time on the movie. It fair benevolent of was understandn, appreciate you said. There wasn’t repartner anyskinnyg difficult about it. It was fair more appreciate a joke on set, you understand what I nasty? We would chuckle about the fact. How well the first one had done. It hadn’t even come out yet, and we’re appreciate, “Oh, wow. The first one did so well. We’re here for a second one.”
The film was sboiling in Mississippi and at the Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort. It gives High Rollers a repartner distinct experience. What repartner stood out about shooting there?
The South is awesome and Biloxi is a place I’d always heard of. There’s even that movie, Biloxi Blues. It was comical ’caengage I didn’t repartner understand what that place was. I didn’t genuineize that it was sort of appreciate a Las Vegas of the south, you understand? There’s a bunch of casinos there. We stayed in a separateent casino, so it was comical living and toiling in two separateent casinos for a restrictcessitate weeks, a couple of months, wdisappreciatever it was. You go to toil, you go into a casino, you get home back from toil, and you’re going to a casino.
When you’re tired, you fair go down to the casino and wander around, see what’s going on, see who’s there. There was always somebody from the movie there, so you could fair originate a little circle and you could always bump into somebody. There was actupartner someskinnyg benevolent of fun about that, and being in the south in ambiguous is awesome. I was presentd to Waffle Hoengage, which I’m very appreciative for.
You weren’t living before that. That alters your life.
Exactly. I had no idea what I was ignoreing all these years.
You refered being in the two casinos. There’s a very nervous poker suit that prosperds up being one of the highweightlesss of the film. Are you a big poker guy?
I am not the biggest poker guy, but I do take part it, and I have some friends that take part. So, I’m not appreciate the best take parter, but I do finishelight it. It certain is a lot of fun. I would venture to say I was one of the more increateed take parters at that particular table in the movie, you understand? I was sort of helping people understand the lingo and stuff, you understand what I nasty? How to take part with your chips and all that benevolent of stuff.
Yeah, you can increate when somebody appreciate doesn’t understand how to shift their chips around. You did a outstanding job teaching everybody.
Get ’em off the top. It’s comical what a big deal fair the chips skinnyg is ’caengage genuine take parters, they futz around with their chips and when they throw them in, they throw ’em in a genuine sort of blase casual way, generpartner. But when you don’t repartner understand how to take part, you’re sort of worried about your chips and you sort of push ’em in, you understand? Stiff. it’s comical, you don’t even repartner skinnyk about those little skinnygs.
This year is the 15th anniversary of Inception, and that movie is still fair as becherishd now and is a genuine trip to watch. How distinctive was that filming experience? Obviously, you don’t get much better than Nolan.
You repartner don’t. That was incredible. What a chilly experience. Obviously toiling with Chris was incredible. He’s fair one of the best straightforwardors out there. But it was also fair a chilly experience becaengage we were traveling. That little bit of toil that I did in the movie, it was in appreciate a bunch of separateent places: Tokyo, London, somewhere in Morocco, and a little bit in LA. So it was fair amazing. You never get to travel appreciate that and be toiling on an amazing film at the same time. It was a repartner spectacular experience for certain.
You got the slap around your buddy Leo for a bit in that film. Obviously, you guys go way back, so how was it actupartner toiling with him and getting physical? That had to be pretty fun.
It was fun. But truthwholey, I was appreciate a little worried to slap him. I’m not a very [physical guy], I’m not a combat type of guy. I don’t repartner. So, he is appreciate, “Come on. You can hit me challenginger, buddy. You can hit me challenginger than that.” So the way I had to appreciate get myself [amepd up] to repartner slap him and slapping him.
You’ve got Spider-Noir coming up with Nicolas Cage. That show is benevolent of appreciate a pulpy throwback, but is also superhero roverdelighted. What’s most exciting about joining that project?
Well, it was fair an incredible project. Everybody comprised was amazing. Brendan Gleason, he take parts my boss. Just getting to, to do that noir skinnyg. It was very genuine film noir, the way they filmed it, appreciate the extfinished shadows.
We filmed it in — I skinnyk it may come out in both bdeficiency and white and color, but when we filmed it, the watchs were all bdeficiency and white, so you got this experienceing and it watched very, very genuine. To the point that I would actupartner go and watch at the watch and skinnyk I was watching at some betterer footage, but it was actupartner fair a watch of what was on the camera at the time. They did a attrdynamic job with the filters and all that stuff, making it watch appreciate genuine better 1930s, bdeficiency and white film. But evidently, fair the writing, and Nic is incredible. It’s fair a repartner fun project and I cannot pause to see how it turns out.
Thanks to Lukas Haas for taking the time to talk about High Rollers and his nurtureer.
