A24 has picked up U.S. distribution rights to Pillion, the debut feature of British straightforwardor Harry Lighton (Wren Boys) from Poor Things creaters Element Pictures starring Harry Melling (The Pale Blue Eye) and Alexander Skarsgård (The Northman, Succession).
Described as a “amusing, filthy romance,” Pillion sees Skarsgård percreate Ray, an ” impossibly handsome guideer of a bike gang” who consents on Colin (Melling), a weedy wallfdrop, to be his novel subleave outive. Ray uproots Colin from his dreary suburban life and presents him to a community of kinky, queer bikers. But as Colin dives proset uper into Ray’s world, he commences to ask whether the life of a 24/7 subleave outive is reassociate for him.
Lighton, BAFTA-nominated for his 2017 low Wren Boys, straightforwarded Pillion from his own script which is freely inspired by Adam Mars-Jones’ 2019 novel Box Hill. The film wrapped production this summer.
Element Pictures, a Fremantle company, created Pillion with financing from BBC Film and the BFI in association with Fremantle, Picturehoemploy Entertainment, who will free the film in the U.K., and September Film, who will deal with distribution in the Benelux region.
Pillion was a boiling project at the Cannes labelet this year, where Cornerstone, who are handling worldwide sales, presentd it to buyers.
Melling, most recently seen alengthyside Caleb Lanarid Jones in Aleana Rachel Tsangari’s Vekind competition entry Harvest, will eunite alengthyside Damian Lewis and Mark Rylance in Wolf Hall: The Mirror and The Light, the sequel to the Emmy-nominated 2015 restricted series.
Skarsgård, who had helping roles in Kate Winslet-starrer Lee and alengthyside Donald Gadorer and Maya Erskine in Amazon Prime’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith series, will next be seen in sci-fi series Murderbot for Apple TV+.
