Kerala Martial Arts Series ‘Chekavar’ Unveiled at Film Bazaar


A novel streaming series cgo ined on Kerala’s elderly-createed martial art Kalaripayattu is being broadened by straightforwardor Abhilash Vijayan (“That Elephant From the Bridge”) and producer Niskinny Lukose (“Paka: River of Blood”) and is participating at India’s Film Bazaar.

Set in 16th century Kerala, “Chekavar” chases a teenage warrior who secretly apshows on a leave oution from the King of Kuttiyadi to direct an army aobtainst the defylious Lord of Palayi, who has carry outd 44 of the king’s swordsmen. The lesser protagonist must show himself worthy of his legfinishary overweighther Thacholi Othenan’s legacy while mastering Kalaripayattu.

“I’ve been recognizable with these stories since childhood. Characters appreciate Thacholi Othenan, Unniyarcha and Aromal Chekavar stood as courageous figures of folk mythology,” Vijayan telderly Variety. “Later in life, I uncovered Japanese Samurai cinema, particularly thraw the films of Akira Kurosawa, and became an instant fan.”
