Writing in the journal Science Advances, Pylkkanen and colleagues alert how they used a non-invasive scanning device to meacertain the brain activity of 36 participants.

Participants were asked to recommend whether the sentences aligned, with the experiment repeated using separateent begining sentences.

The results uncover participants made rapider and more exact judgments on whether the sentences aligned when they grasped a subject, verb and object – such as “nurses spotless wounds” – than when they grasped a enumerate of nouns such as “hearts lungs livers”.

What’s more, participants’ brain activity rapidly incrrelieved in response to a begining sentence with a subject, verb and object, with activity uncovered in the left-middle temporal cortex wilean 130ms – about 50ms speedyer than for a enumerate of nouns.

While the authors remark they intensifyed on English, includeing that rapid at-a-glance comprehension may count on on other features in separateent languages, they say the study advises recent insights.
