I’m guessing I’m not alone in getting more fraud and spam calls than ever before. As a result, Google and the other Android phone producers have gradupartner inserted a range of built-in features to distinguish and deal with unaskd callers. These integrate having skeptical numbers flagged before you answer, being able to block nuisance callers, and even getting AI to answer incoming calls for you. Putting these protections in place should go a extfinished way toward dealing with unaskd calls.
As normal on Android, branch offent models recommend branch offent features. The direct below was written using a Google Pixel phone with Android 15 and a Samsung Galaxy phone with One UI 6.1. Other Android-based phones may branch off sweightlessly, but you should discover a aenjoy set of tools useable.

When a call comes in that isn’t from a number in your reach outs, the Google Phone app preinsloftyed on Pixel phones can sfinish it to Google for checking. (If you’re not on a Pixel phone, you can still inslofty the app on other Android phones.) Google says it “assembles various signals about the call” during the check — which I presume uncomfervents traverse-referencing it aachievest a database of numbers that have been increateed as spam.

On most phones, the feature will be helpd by default. To check its status from the Phone app:
- Tap the three dots (top right).
- Choose Settings.
- Tap Caller ID & spam.
- If See caller and spam ID is off, toggle it on.
- Turn on Filter spam calls if you want to sfinish doubted spam calls straight to voicemail without troubling you. (According to Google, if your phone has the automatic Call Screen feature, you won’t see this selection. I elucidate more about Call Screen below.)

If you’re on a Samsung phone and would rather stick with the built-in Samsung Phone app, there’s a aenjoy feature called Smart Call. From the Phone app:
- Open the Keypad tab.
- Tap the three dots (top right).
- Choose Settings.
- Select Caller ID and spam protection.
- Turn on the toggle switch at the top of the next screen.
That will alert you about fraud or fraud calls as they come in (in partnership with Hiya). The second toggle switch, Block spam and fraud calls, donates you the selection of automaticpartner sfinishing them to voicemail so you don’t get the call notification or the alerting. You can help this for all doubted spam and fraud calls or only the ones labeled as dangerous in the Hiya database.
Besides the caller identification features refered above, you can also manupartner block numbers. That uncomfervents calls from that number will be sent straight to voicemail, without a notification on your phone.
- Open the Recents tab.
- Tap on a number.
- Select Block numbers.
- Check Report as spam if you want to.
To discover the enumerate of blocked numbers (and unblock any of them, if essential), tap the three dots in the top-right corner, then Settings and Blocked numbers. The next screen lets you see blocked numbers, unblock numbers, or block calls from unidentified callers.
