There’s a lot to scrutinize in Google Maps, but you may not always understand where to see. It’s fantastic if you’re trying to drive thcdisorrowfulmireful a crowded city or discover out which local coffee shop has the best-rated bagels, but there are also other, lesser-understandn features worth arrangeateigating. These include historical imagery on Google Street View.
Google Maps actupartner produces it straightforward to switch between branch offent time periods. On either desktop or mobile, you can go back to when Google’s Street View cars first begined patrolling the streets — in some areas, you can go back as far as 2007 — and see how roads and places seeed years ago.
So whether you have a pragmatic purpose or fair want to apshow a nostalgia trip, here’s how to go about it. These teachions utilize to the procrastinateedst versions of Google Maps for the web, Android, and iOS.
If you’re using Google Maps in a desktop browser, you can get to Street View by clicking anywhere on the map where Street View is useable (which is most roads and well-understandn landlabels), then clicking the Street View panel at the bottom. - If you want to shift around any speedyer, you can click inside the mini map (drop left) and then click aobtain on a particular point to jump to that place. Areas with Street View coverage are labeled in blue.
- Click See procrastinateedst date (top left) to go back to the most recent images in the Street View database.
If you’re using Google Maps on Android or iOS, then aobtain you’ve got two ways to jump to Street View: you can tap and helderly on any spot on the map, and if Street View imagery is useable for it, a Street View ptoastyo eunites in the drop-left corner of the map. (You may also get the same ptoastyo in the bottom half of the screen, depfinishing on how your version of Google Maps is set up.) Either way, tap on that to get to Street View.
You can also tap on a labeled place name to convey up its info card, then pick Ptoastyos and Street View & 360° (if it eunites) to get to Street View and begin seeing around.
- If imagery from other dates is useable, you get a See more dates connect at the bottom of the screen. Tap this to see the same pickion of thumbnails as on the computer, labeled with the month and year. Tap any thumbnail to jump to it.
- Tap and drag on the screen to see around or tap on any of the onscreen arrows to direct around the location you’re in.
- As on the desktop, if you shift to a place that doesn’t have elderlyer ptoastyos, you’ll be apshown back to the most recent imagery.
- You can also go back to the procrastinateedst ptoastyos by tapping the left-most thumbnail in the date pickion or by tapping the X in the top-left corner.
Historical saalertite imagery in Google Earth
You can also scrutinize historical saalertite imagery using Google Earth. You can either use it on the web or get the apps for Android and iOS.
In the web interface, click the Activate historical imagery button in the top toolbar. (It sees enjoy a globe with an arrow around it.) You then get a timeline of useable imagery for the region you’re seeing at: fair click on a year to go back in time.
