Godzilla X Kong Director Teases Homages & Easter Eggs to Godzilla Toho Era, New Images Released

by Xtreme HD IPTV

  • Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will pay homage to the various Godzilla eras, including the late-Shōwa era, and include Easter eggs for hardcore fans.
  • The film promises plenty of giant battles and chaos for fans of the monster-mash genre.
  • The movie will feature lengthy CGI sequences where the monsters take center stage, telling their own narrative in a visual, nonverbal way.

Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard returns to the MonsterVerse this year with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and the filmmaker promises to continue to demonstrate his passion for the kaiju genre with homages to the various Godzilla eras, including Toho. Speaking with Total Film, who have also revealed several new images from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Wingard declared his love for “the late-Shōwa era,” and teased a “handful of Easter eggs for the hardcore fans.”

“One of the incredible things about Godzilla is that the character has existed in so many different tones and interpretations in the Toho films. I’m a huge fan of the whole spectrum, and I’ve always really enjoyed the late-Shōwa era. There are so many big ideas and they have such epic fun with these larger-than-life characters. In Godzilla vs. Kong, we paid homage to that epic tradition, including a handful of Easter eggs for the hardcore fans, and while I don’t want to give anything away, we definitely work in a few things for the Toho fans in the new film as well, so keep your eyes open!”

It certainly sounds like Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will have plenty for fans of the monster-mash genre to look out for. Amid the giant battles and chaos, of course. Wingard returns to helm the MonsterVerse sequel following 2021’s hugely successful Godzilla vs. Kong, with the pair of titans now expected to join forces to battle a new foe.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire sees Wingard reunite with The Guest star Dan Stevens as the mysterious Tracker, who the actor has now described as “a specialist in these creatures… If you’ve got a sick titan, Trap is your guy.”

The rest of the cast includes Rebecca Hall as Kong expert Dr. Ilene Andrews, Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes, Kaylee Hottle as Jia, with Fala Chen, Alex Ferns, and Rachel House due to join the fray.

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire Is Due to Land in Theaters in April

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the latest entry in the ongoing MonsterVerse, and follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting mighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.

Director Adam Wingard recently teased the extent of the monster-on-monster fights in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, revealing that there are some lengthy CGI sequences featuring “monsters doing their thing.”

“So much of the film is entirely animated CG shots; so much of it is just pure imagination. We have some sequences going up to about eight minutes long, where it’s just the monsters doing their thing, and so the movie really allows the monsters to tell their own narrative in a visual, nonverbal way.”

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is scheduled to be released on April 12, 2024.
