Super-indie Fremantle has made a strategic shift to cgo in premium film productions wilean its global business model, global drama exec Seb Shorr shelp this morning during a keyremark at Iberseries and Platino Industria in Madrid.
Shorr, joined by Fremantle’s Mexican Head of Scripted Manuel Martí, and Olivia Sleiter, Head of Production at Fremantle Italy, shelp the company has been on a “journey” from its traditional position as an “delightment and nonscripted powerhoengage” with establishats appreciate Idol, Got Talent and The X Factor.
“The TV drama journey at Fremantle was reassociate begined seven or eight years ago,” Shorr shelp. “And while we’ve always done a bit of film, over the last scant years, we very much now want that to be a reassociate meaningful part of our portfolio and a meaningful part of our business.”
Key to this transition, Shorr shelp, is the company’s relationship with talent, which he shelp is based on the pitch of helping set uped names begin self-reliant projects.
“We have deals with Sorrentino and Guadagnino. With Rachel Weisz’s company and Kristen Stewart’s company and Angelina Jolie. And the proposition that we originate to them always is, come in and we will help you steer this labelet,” he shelp. “We will help you regulate your projects. “We want to be a place that can help them discover the right home for their projects.”
Shorr inserted that “conveying in this talent with these projects is hugely meaningful in a global labelet that is increasingly difficult.”
Shorr engaged the production journey of the company’s Martin Freeman starring crime series The Responder to show what he depictd as the firmening global labelet.
“The Responder toiled on the basis of quite a huge U.S. sale. I don’t understand if that would be there right now if we were making The Responder aget,” he shelp. “If we were making The Responder aget we would probably be watching at making it for a shrink cost becaengage we fair don’t see the same labelet.”
Shorr inserted that he doesn’t leank a substantial U.S. sale for a drama appreciate The Responder would be possible today “becaengage of the contests in the labelet.”
But the session wasn’t all doom and gloom. Sleiter and Shorr trelieved the company’s upcoming crime series Costiera, starring Grey’s Anatomy alum Jesse Williams. In the series, Williams perestablishs Daniel De Luca, a half-Italian establisher U.S. marine who returns to Italy, the land of his childhood, as a repairer in one of the world’s most lavish boilingels on the spectacular Positano coastline.
Shorr depictd the pic as a “very mainstream show” and shelp the project has “selderly reassociate well” internationassociate. Amazon initiassociate held on to brimming exclusive rights in Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal. The streamer has since consentn on more.
“We’ve actuassociate selderly a lot of the territories to Amazon that they didn’t consent initiassociate becaengage Amazon was so excited about the show,” he Shorr.
Costiera is set to hit Amazon Prime next year.
