Hideo Kojima’s highly-anticipated Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was finally announced early in December 2022 during The Game Awards. The first Death Stranding included many well-known actors, directors, and comedians, ranging from Nicolas Winding Refn to Conan O’Brien. A partial cast list for the title was revealed in the initial announcement for Death Stranding 2, the second trailer, and some of Kojima’s Tweets since, containing the names of both returning and new actors.

The new cast list for the sequel includes names from across the voice acting, television, and film worlds. There are many recognizable faces, voices, and names in Death Stranding 2, but it can sometimes be hard to determine just where else a player knows them from. This is everyone that’s been announced so far as part of Death Stranding 2, and other notable works they’ve appeared in.

Every Actor Confirmed For Hideo Kojima’s OD So Far

OD is the newest game to be revealed from acclaimed director Hideo Kojima, and he’s already lined up some major Hollywood talent to star in it.

Norman Reedus Returns As Sam In Death Stranding 2

From The Walking Dead & The Boondock Saints

Considering he did motion capture for his starring role as Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding, it’s not too surprising to learn Norman Reedus is also headlining Death Stranding 2. Although Reedus has worked across film and television for many years, his gruff visage is arguably most recognizable for his role as Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead, one of the show’s most prominent characters who now has his own self-titled spinoff.

Action movie fans might also recognize Reedus, who confirmed Death Stranding 2 in the first place several months before the official trailer, from his starring roles in films like The Boondock Saints and its sequel. Interestingly, Reedus has also worked on another Kojima project in the past, voicing the protagonist of P.T., the teaser demo for the later-canceled Silent Hills game.

Léa Seydoux Returns As Fragile In Death Stranding 2

From Blue Is The Warmest Color, The James Bond Franchise, & Wes Anderson Films

Before her role as Fragile in Death Stranding, Léa Seydoux had never appeared in a video game before. Except for her work with Kojima, the actress has worked exclusively in film. Seydoux has appeared in many critically-acclaimed movies, like Blue Is the Warmest Color, The Lobster, and Crimes of the Future. She’s a frequent Wes Anderson collaborator, having appeared in both The Grand Budapest Hotel and The French Dispatch.

Timothée Chalamet’s Rumored New Role May Be His Weirdest Yet

Timothée Chalamet is no stranger to unusual parts, but he could be going weirder than ever in one potential project currently in the works.

Seydoux also notably played Bond-girl Madeleine Swann in Spectre and No Time To Die, as well as Sabine Moreau in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. She’s set to appear as Lady Margot in the upcoming Dune: Part 2. She will once again stray from the world of film for Death Stranding 2, but doesn’t seem to have any other plans to foray into gaming roles.

Troy Baker Returns As Higgs In Death Stranding 2

From The Last Of Us, BioShock, Far Cry, & DC Animated Films

From being one of the best game Batmans not voiced by Kevin Conroy to voicing Joel in The Last of Us games, Troy Baker is widely known for his voice talents. Baker, who will be returning as Higgs Monaghan in Death Stranding 2, has had an extensive career of voicing characters across anime, animated television, film, and video games, from Frank Archer in Fullmetal Alchemist to roles as both Batman and the Joker in many DC animated movies.

Higgs appears in Joker-esque makeup in Death Stranding 2, in a likely nod to Baker’s past voice roles.

Although perhaps most famous for his role as Joel in The Last of Us, Baker has also voiced well-known game characters like BioShock Infinite protagonist Booker DeWitt, Far Cry 4 antagonist Pagan Min, Sam Drake in the Uncharted series, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales antagonist Simon Krieger. This is his third game with Hideo Kojima – besides Death Stranding, he also voiced Revolver Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid V.

Death Stranding 2 Is Elle Fanning’s First Game

From Maleficent & The Great

Elle Fanning in The Great, a period drama series set in 18th century Russia.

Actress Elle Fanning, who was teased for a Kojima game role even before the announcement of Death Stranding 2, has truly been in the film industry since near-infancy, following in the footsteps of her actress older sister Dakota Fanning. She first began truly rising to recognizable roles when she played characters like a younger version of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button‘s Daisy Fuller and Alice Dainard in Super 8. However, as she’s grown older she’s taken on roles in film and television that have truly made her a household name.

Death Stranding’s America Is Unrecognizable (But It Doesn’t Matter)

The America depicted in Death Stranding does not resemble the size or geography of the real-world’s USA, and this alienating America was by design.

Film-wise, Fanning’s role as Princess Aurora in the Maleficent movies buoyed her stardom, and this was further compounded by her leading role in the television series The Great, in which she stars as the eponymous Catherine the Great. Neither of Death Stranding 2‘s bizarre trailers have elaborated on what Fanning’s role will be in the game, but some have speculated she’ll play a grown-up version of Sam’s Bridge Baby Lou. Whatever her role may be, the title will be Fanning’s first foray into video game acting.

Shioli Kutsuna Worked in TV & Film Before Death Stranding 2

From Deadpool & Murder Mystery

While Shioli Kutsuna might not be a household name in the US, she’ll likely still look familiar to fans of superhero movies, as Kutsuna played the role of the hero Yukio in Deadpool 2. Kutsuna also starred alongside big names Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in the Netflix film Murder Mystery, and has had a long career in Japanese film and television. Just like Fanning, it’s currently unknown the role that Kutsuna will play in Death Stranding 2, and it likely won’t be revealed until much closer to the game’s launch window.

Director George Miller Makes His Video Game Debut In Death Stranding 2

From Mad Max & The Witches Of Eastwick

Also making his first-ever video game appearance in Death Stranding 2 is film director George Miller. While his face is less recognizable than others on the list, Miller has just as much of a pedigree. He directed four films in the Mad Max series: the original Mad Max, Mad Max 2, Beyond Thunderdome, and the reboot Fury Road. Miller is also attached to direct the upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which is due for release later this year.

Miller has also directed two supernatural romances: The Witches of Eastwick and Three Thousand Years of Longing. He’s also got a knack for talking animal films, having written Babe and directed both Happy Feet movies. In Death Stranding 2, he’ll play a leading member of the Drawbridge project to extend the Chiral Network beyond the Untied Cities of America, alongside Léa Seydoux’s Fragile.

Director Fatih Akin Makes His Video Game Debut In Death Stranding 2

From The Edge Of Heaven & In The Fade

German director Fatih Akin will also make an appearance in Death Stranding 2. He’s best known for drama films The Edge of Heaven and In the Fade, both of which focus on discrimination against Turkish and Kurdish immigrants to Germany, and the former of which won him Best Screenplay at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. In Death Stranding 2, however, he takes on a more whimsical role: as a talking ventriloquist dummy who offers guidance to Sam along his journey.

There’s likely still a lot of the game’s cast that haven’t been announced yet, and most fans probably have their own thoughts on which actors should appear in the Death Stranding sequel. It’s very typical of Hideo Kojima as a developer to keep things under wraps and leave a lot of twists and surprises for fans, and that very well could apply to the game’s cast as well as its plot. The return of Reedus, Seydoux, and Baker is great news for fans of the first game, as all their great performances truly made the title an incredible cinematic experience.

Talented new arrivals Fanning, Miller, Akin, and Kutsuna will be welcome additions to the cast, no doubt complementing the returning members from the original Death Stranding, and it’ll be exciting to eventually learn about the new characters they’ll be playing. Although there’s still a lot left to learn about Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, players will recognize a lot of familiar faces from other pieces of media when the game releases.
