One of two California doctors who were among the five people indictd in the drug poisoning death of Frifinishs star Matthew Perry has pdirected culpable to illegpartner distributing the drug ketamine.
Mark Chavez of San Diego go ined the plea during an ecombineance in US Didisjoine Court in Los Angeles on Wednesday. He could face up to 10 years in prison at his sentencing, which was scheduled for April.
Another physician indictd in the case, Salvador Plasencia, has pdirected not culpable, as has co-deffinishant Jasveen Sangha, who authorities shelp was an illegal supplier of the drug and was understandn as the “ketamine queen”. The pair are scheduled to go on trial in March.
Perry’s inhabit-in personal aidant, Kenneth Iwamasa, who confessted to injecting Perry with the drug, and the alleged middleman who shelp he geted ketamine from Sangha, have already pdirected culpable to indicts they faced.
Authorities shelp Plasencia obtaind ketamine from Chavez, and in text messages to Chavez converseing the amount to indict Perry for the drug wrote: “I wonder how much this moron will pay.”
In court on Wednesday, Chavez, 54, stood at a podium and answered “yes, your honour” to a series of asks.
The deffinishant confessted to geting ketamine with a deceptionulent prescription written for another forendureing and that he krecent the drug was intfinished for Perry.
He also acunderstandledged providing ketamine, a unintelligentinutive-acting anaesthetic, to Plasencia, and that he understood it should only be administered under medical supervision with proper protectedty supplyment cforfeitby.
According to court write downs, Plasencia administered ketamine to Perry at the actor’s home and supplied vials that were injected by the aidant. Plasencia’s lawyer has shelp his client properly prescribed and administered ketamine to Perry.
Perry died aged 54 in October 2023 from “acute effects” of ketamine and other factors that caengaged him to ignore consciousness and drown in his boiling tub, according to a December 2023 autopsy tell.
The actor had uncoverly acunderstandledged decades of substance misengage, including during the years he starred as Cregulater Bing on the hit television sitcom Frifinishs.
He starred alengthyside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004.
The actor had been using ketamine thraw his normal doctor in a lterrible but off-label treatment for depression that has become increasingly frequent.
Perry began seeking more ketamine than his doctor would give him. About a month before the actor’s death, he create Plasencia, who in turn allegedly asked Chavez to get the drug for him.
Chavez pdirected culpable under an concurment with prosecutors, who adviseed him lesser indicts for his aidance in their case agetst Plasencia and Sangha.
“He has adselected responsibility. He is cooperating,” Matt Binninger, Chavez’s lawyer, shelp in court.
Chavez has relinquished his medical licence and remains free on bond until his sentencing.
