Summary

  • Danielle Harris feels sad to see her former The Last Boy Scout co-star, Bruce Willis, struggle with ongoing health issues.
  • Harris is writing a book that includes stories about her experiences with Willis on the set of the 1991 film.
  • Harris reveals that Willis once told her, “Kid, this is my movie, don’t upstage me,” which she now sees as a compliment.

Danielle Harris can’t help but feel “sad” for her one-time co-star, Bruce Willis. As a child actor, Harris starred alongside the Hollywood icon in director Tony Scott’s The Last Boy Scout. 33 years later, though, Harris finds it “devastating” to see Willis struggle with his ongoing health issues. Harris said in an exclusive interview with Screen Rant:

“Devastating, it’s sad. I feel the same way about Christina Applegate, to see these stars that, in your mind, are going to be there forever, and then you start to see them age or pass. I mean, I’m 46, so I’m starting to see my movie stars that I looked up to dying, and you don’t think that’s ever going to happen. You think they’re going to stay that way forever, so it’s really scary and sad.”

Harris is best known by genre fans as the character of Jamie Lloyd in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. After Jamie Lee Curtis’ departure in Halloween II (1981), the villainous Shape needed a new target to pursue, so Harris was hired to portray Laurie Strode’s (Curtis) young daughter after Curtis’ character was presumably killed in a car accident prior to the events of The Return of Michael Myers.

Over the years, Danielle Harris has gained the reputation of being a well-known Scream Queen in the horror genre thanks to her roles (Jamie Lloyd and Annie Brackett) in the Halloween franchise, as well as appearing in the Hatchet sequels. Today, the co-host of the Talk Scary To Me podcast, along with fellow Halloween star Scout Taylor-Compton, is busy writing a book that includes stories about her The Last Boy Scout co-star, Bruce Willis. Harris said in the same interview:

“I’m writing a book now, actually, and my writer came in town this weekend, and we just went over all the chapters, and Last Boy Scout’s obviously a very, very big chapter in my book, and the stories about Bruce. The first day that I came on set, [after] I did the first scene, he said, ‘Kid, this is my movie, don’t upstage me.’ At the time, I was like, ‘He’s not nice, he’s not being nice.’ And then thinking about it, that’s just Bruce.

He’s just funny like that, and he was actually paying me a huge compliment by saying that. But as a 14-year-old, you’re like, ‘Oh, I don’t know what I did wrong.’ And then, obviously, Tony Scott, I talked a lot about him on my podcast, actually, that’s out today, I talked about Tony and what he’d wear to set, and he took me to get those fake braces where I had to get a tooth pulled. It’s crazy, like, Tony Scott took me to the dentist to get my tooth pulled. Who does that kind of stuff? So, that movie is super special.”

Danielle Harris would return for a sequel to The Last Boy Scout, but given Willis’ well-documented health issues, a follow-up to the 1991 film seems highly unlikely. Horror fans can listen to Harris and co-host Taylor-Compton’s podcast, Talk Scary To Me, on Apple Podcasts and Spotify right now.
