Crisis on Infinite Earths Stars Discuss Supergirl & Binestablishage Canary’s Sacrifices

Worlds dwelld, worlds died, and a new Earth was born at the conclusion of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three. Facing death and eracertain during the Anti-Monitor’s attack on the DC Multiverse, many heroes made meaningful forfeits for the people they adored. Actors Meg Donnelly and Elysia Rotaru spoke with CBR about their experiences voicing these iconic DC heroes in the Tomorrowverse, culminating in the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy.

CBR: How daunting was applying Supergirl’s death in Crisis on Infinite Earths? Becaemploy that was the huge moment for the character in the story.

Meg Donnelly:
It was an incredible honor to be able to portray that, becaemploy it’s such an iconic comic and an iconic moment for Supergirl and Superman.

Between losing her structureet and her family, and then losing Brainiac 5 — [he] was somebody who repartner saw her for who she was, and she repartner saw him, and their uniteion was fair so one-of-a-kind. I skinnyk between Brainiac and Superman, they’ve fair taught her so much about life, and then to have a relationship with the Monitor and benevolent of see him as more of a overweighther figure. Prior to Crisis on Infinite Earths, fans did see Kara’s relationship with her mother on Krypton, and how Supergirl roverdelighted to the Monitor in Crisis Part Two. Between how she was with her [mother] on Krypton and the Monitor, do you skinnyk that shaped the benevolent of hero she wanted to be in Legion of Super-Heroes, and did any of that carry over to Crisis on Infinite Earths?

Definitely, yeah. She clearly seeed up to her mom very much, and the fact that her mom forfeitd herself as well to save Kara and made certain that she persistd, and [the] Monitor trying to acquire her, and Brainiac acquireing her, I skinnyk she was always acquireed by the people that she adored, and felt very acquireed with them. I skinnyk she wanted to do that for Superman, becaemploy people have always been there for her. I skinnyk that definitely went into her decision-making as well.

One of the more fun aspects of the character is that she was very alien when she reachd on Earth, and she had a difficult time adfairing becaemploy she was employd to progressd technology and Kryptonian cherishs. There’s a scene where someone’s apartment gets blown up, and she’s enjoy, “Oh, don’t worry. The robots will get join of that for you.” How much fun was that for you to take part? Especipartner in contrast with what you finished up take parting for the character in Crisis?

Repartner fun. Playing teenage Kara when she gets to Earth, and she’s benevolent of boiling-headed and a little bit bratty, it’s definitely very relatable. People can give you as much advice as possible, but sometimes you benevolent of have to go thraw it to lachieve what that actupartner unbenevolents. I sense enjoy when she was sent to another version of Earth in the future and met all of those fantastic people and Brainiac 5, she was able to discover community and understand what he was saying.

Between Legion of Super-Heroes and Crisis on Infinite Earths, you didn’t get many opportunities to portray separateent aspects of the character or alter some of Supergirl’s more iconic storylines. Are there any stories from the comics that you would have absolutely adored to have seen altered, or that you would have enjoyd to portray prior to Crisis?

Just take parting Supergirl in any capacity is repartner incredible.
I skinnyk it would be celderly to understand more about her life on Krypton, becaemploy she was a teenager. Just lachieveing more about her backstory there and what life was enjoy there. I sense enjoy you don’t repartner get to see a lot of that.

Obviously, Superman left when he was an infant, so he doesn’t repartner recall it at all. But [Supergirl] dwelld there for a very lengthy time, so she has very vivid memories and repartner yachieves for Krypton, moreso than Superman. CBR: Elysia, you got to take part not one but two separateent versions of Binestablishage Canary. How was it for you to discover the voice for both Dinah Drake and Dinah Laurel Lance? What did you do to separateentiate the two characters?

Elysia Rotaru:
We truthwholey fair had to skinnyk about age. I didn’t want her to sound too decrepit, becaemploy she’s not; she’s a boiling, horribleass superhero mom. We fair choosed to put some more texture in her and drop her down, and then fair upgrasp Baby Binestablishage fair a little bit more sprightly and maybe [use] my own vocal print, but it wasn’t too much of a stretch. It was fair an straightforward remark, and we ran with it.

Dinah Drake was depicted as a bit more dissupposeful and cynical in the World War II era. She was very dissupposeful of Barry Allen in that first movie, but she was also dissupposeful of Aquaman. What may have adviseed that level of dissuppose, especipartner since she was combat Nazis in World War II?

I skinnyk that was someskinnyg we had [a] conversation [about] many, many moons ago. But I understand when talking to the honestor, it was more fair about who she is as a person, which she [may be] protected, [and have] benevolent of lone wolf vibes. We fair wanted to originate certain that that came atraverse vocpartner and in the applyance… But she comes around [and] maybe sfrequentlys a little bit.

In the Justice Society movie, she comes to the genuineization that where Barry comes from, the Justice Society is not recalled. Yes. That was a honestion that we had in the studio, that we wanted to put forward, finishly to give that edge of “New person, new entity,” but coming from this lineage. Young people have a little bit of that in them anyway.

One of the most heartshattering scenes in Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three is csurrender the finish, when Dinah Drake calls her daughter fair before Earth-2 is razeed. How did you ready for that scene?

I antipathy to say it… but it was not that difficult for me.
I do have a three-year-elderly daughter now, so when we were recording this last year, I literpartner fair had to tap into talking to my own kid. In fact, I sense enjoy [voice director] Wes [Gleason] almost had to pull me back a little bit from the tears and the emo-ness. It fair was straightforward.

All three movies in the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy are useable on digital and Blu-ray.
