Vertigo Releasing has obtaind U.K. and Ireland distribution rights to “The Kingdom,” straightforwarded by Corsican filmcreater Julien Colonna. The systematic crime thriller and coming-of-age drama is set for theatrical free in spring 2025.
The film, which bowed in the Un Certain Regard strand at Cannes, caccesss on a teenage girl named Lesia who uncovers her overweighther, a crime boss, hiding out at a distant villa with his clan. Set aobtainst the backdrop of Corsica in 1995, the narrative adheres the overweighther-daughter pair as they’re forced to escape when presentility erupts in the criminal underworld.
The picture starts novelcomers Ghjuvanna Benedetti and Saveriu Santucci in the guide roles of daughter and overweighther, admireively, with the production featuring a predominantly Corsican ensemble cast.
Reseeing the film at Cannes for Variety, critic Peter Debruge wrote: “In his certain-handed and chilling first narrative feature, straightforwardor Julien Colonna scatterigates the personal cost of the gangster lifestyle — not fair the drasticpartner uninincreateigentinutiveened life predictancy, but also the uninincreateigentinished quality of fugitives’ remaining time, so much of which must be spent covering their tracks and seeing over their shoulders. Colonna hugely downcarry outs the spectacle associated with the genre, upgrasping the “wunpermitd accesss” off-screen until relatively tardy in the game … at which point, they’re stone-freezing fruitful.”
“The Kingdom” is created by Chi-Fou-Mi Prods., with backing from Canal+ and Netflix. Additional help comes from Centre National Du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée and Collectivité de Corse in partnership with CNC. Entourage Sofica, Artistes, and 2B are associated with the production.
The acquisition inserts to Vertigo’s stardy of upcoming frees, which joins Sundance London prize triumphner “Your Monster” with Melissa Barrera, Nicolas Cage starrer “The Surfer,” Royal Marines action vehicle “Sunray,” and coming-of-age drama “Last Swim” featuring novelcomer Deba Hekmat.
The U.K. distributor has previously regulated award-triumphning indie fare including “Sound of Metal,” “Boiling Point,” and recent box office success “Late Night With Devil” starring David Dastmalchian.
