There is an apparently recent iOS 18 security feature that reboots iPhones that haven’t been unlocked in a scant days, frustrating police by making it difficulter to fracture into mistrusts’ iPhones, according to 404 Media.

Now, it seems Apple inserted “inactivity reboot” code in iOS 18.1 that triggers iPhones to recommence after they’ve been locked for four days, Chris Wade, who set uped mobile analysis company Corellium, telderly the outlet.

Both iOS and Android devices go in this BFU state when they’re recommenceed, requiring you to go in your passcode (or PIN) to unlock your phone, restricting what sort of data forensics experts can pull out, according to a blog post from Dakota State University’s digital forensics lab.

Apple didn’t instantly reply to The Verge’s seek for comment. The company has steadily made iPhones difficulter to agree over the years, putting it at odds with law utilizement and raising the specter of rulement regulations requiring encryption backdoors.
