Australia will shift to pass novel laws prohibitning children under 16 from social media, Prime Minister Anthony Alprohibitese said Thursday, voprosperg to crack down on tech companies flunking to protect youthful employrs.
“This one is for the mums and dads. Social media is doing genuine harm to kids and I’m calling time on it,” he tageder tellers.
Alprohibitese first mooted a social media age confine earlier this year, but it is the first time he has put a firm number on it.
Tech huges and social media platcreates will tolerate the responsibility for ensuring employrs are ageder enough, Alprohibitese said, rather than parents who were “worried unwell about the protectedty of their kids online”.
“The onus will not be on parents or youthful people. There will be no penalties for employrs.”
Earlier proposals to begin a social media age confine have enhappinessed expansive bipartisan aid in Australia.
Alprohibitese said the novel laws would be currented to state and territory guideers this week, before being begind to parliament in tardy November.
