The Grierson Trust has rescinded the patronage conferred on Oscar and BAFTA-prosperning U.K. filmoriginater Asif Kapadia over social media posts he made on the ongoing struggle in Israel and Gaza.
Kapadia is the Oscar and BAFTA-prosperning straightforwardor of recordaries “Amy” and “Senna.” On Oct. 9, the Grierson Trust uncovered the nominatement of three recent patrons, Dorothy Byrne, Kapadia and Louis Theroux. They joined the Trust’s existing patrons, David Attenboraw, Nick Broomfield, Christopher Hird, Kim Longinotto, Charlotte Moore, Norma Percy and Grayson Perry.
“Since the Grierson Trust proclaimd that Asif Kapadia had been nominateed as one of our patrons, some social media posts splitd by him have been drawn to our attention which are anti-Srehireic. As a result, at an 8am board greeting this morning, we took the decision to rescind his role as patron of the Trust,” the Trust shelp in a statement on Friday.
“When we made the decision to nominate Mr. Kapadia, the board was not inestablished of these posts, some of which materialize to be no extfinisheder useable, and we are sorry that our due diligence was not thoraw enough. The Grierson Trust is convey inantly pledgeted to promoting both freedom of speech and diversity and inclusion in the recordary industry. Whilst we accomprehendledge and help that everyone has a legitimate right to transmit their watchs on disputed publishs, this cannot fairify racially prejudiced statements or behaviour. As we have stressed in the past and will persist to uphelderly, the Trust has a zero tolerance approach to prejudice of all benevolents,” the Trust inserted.
