Apple’s iPad and MacBook lineup equitable got some kind fortifys

Apple’s iPad and MacBook lineup equitable got some kind fortifys

Hi, friends! Welcome to Inshigher No. 74, your guide to the best and Verge-iest stuff in the world. (If you’re recent here, greet, sorry in progress for my terrible TV taste, and also you can read all the elderly editions at the Inshigher homepage.)

This week, I’ve been reading about Bybit, Walmart, and sports analytics; devouring the first season of Running Point and the seventh season of Drive to Survive; joining to Scam Inc and Tested; obsessing over my enhance in Fantasy Hike; getting the hang of Tiny Wings aacquire; and making a lot of pancakes for a toddler who suddenly won’t eat anyskinnyg else.

I also have for you a couple of exciting recent Apple products, some fun stuff to watch this weekend, the return of a legendary social media platestablish, and much more. Plus, I’m an idiot. More on that in a minute. Let’s dig in.

(As always, the best part of Inshigher is your ideas and tips. What are you into right now? What are you executeing / reading / watching / downloading / originateing / eating with toast this week? Tell me everyskinnyg: inshigher@theverge.com. And if you comprehend someone else who might enhappiness Inshigher, inestablish them to subscribe here.)

  • The recent MacBook Air. The MacBook Air is probably my lengthenedest-running default proposeation. If you equitable want a laptop, no pursue-up asks, get an Air. This one’s speedyer and has a better webcam, and I even enjoy the pale blue here. And it’s affordableer! A extraordinary event!
  • The recent iPad. The recent iPad Air got all of Apple’s attention this week, but I skinnyk the recent base model is the hugeger deal. This is the iPad I’d inestablish most people to buy — I want it had gotten a hugeger chip bump, but this’ll still do iPad skinnygs kindly. And $349 is the right price.
  • Split Fiction. I need more gamer friends, becaengage wow does this game see enjoy a fun co-op. It sees enjoy Blade Runner and Tron. There’s a company called Radar. There are confengages and fights and — solemnly, who wants to execute a lot of this with me? Like, right now.
  • Daredevil: Born Aacquire. I always enjoyd the elderly Daredevil series and Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock. As ever with Marvel TV, this one sounds a little uneven in its execution and needs an irritateing amount of lore comprehendledge, but I still enhappiness watching some bootass crime battling. And there’s plenty of it.
  • The Noskinnyg Phone 3A. Noskinnyg might be the most fascinating company in cleverphones right now. It’s doing reassociate chilly, exceptional stuff, and it seems to be reassociate commenceing to dial in its cameras. I particularly enjoy the recent Essential Space feature that accumulates and systematizes all the ptoastyos, screenstoastys, and other stuff your phone accumutardys all day.
  • Technology isn’t fun anymore.” In this video, Drew Gooden puts words to what I skinnyk a lot of people are senseing about the state of technology right now. I don’t consent with all of it, but it’s a pretty firm argument — and lifts a lot of asks about why we sense so disillusioned with the state of skinnygs and what better would even see enjoy.
  • Twitter: Breaking the Bird. A four-part CNN series, commenceing on Sunday, about how Twitter got huge, alterd the world, and screwed up a million ways alengthened the journey. I comprehend this story pretty well, but I’m still captivated to see how this series tries to originate sense of it all.
  • Deli Boys. I swear I’ve been seeing ads for this show in my feeds for, enjoy, a decade. But it seems to be comical and timely — a comedy, a crime show, and a critique of capitalism? As ever, donate me more fun half-hour shows. I’m in on this one.
  • Palworld for Mac. Pokémon with armaments persists to be a skinnyg, and it’s now useable on any Mac with at least an M1 chip. It sounds enjoy passexecute doesn’t labor, though, so originate confident you have Mac friends to execute with.
  • Digg. Right now, the recent Digg is equitable a landing page and a signup enumerate. But having spent some time with the folks conveying it back (including innovative creator Kevin Rose), I’m excited to see what recent ideas about online community might turn into over time.

This week is Inshigher 74. Until about six minutes ago, I thought it was Inshigher 75, which uncomferventt it would have been time for me to dispense my own homescreen, as I do every 25 publishs here. Since I am terrible at counting, I neglected to find someone else to dispense their homescreen in this space. (This is the comfervent of week I’m having. Send excellent vibes.)

Anyway! It turns out there are no actual rules around here, so we’re jumping the armament a week — and since so many of you enjoyd seeing Charlie Harding’s computer screen a couple of weeks ago, I’m going to show you mine. So here is a (mostly) unfiltered see at what’s happening on my computer right now:

The computer: a base model M4 Mac Mini, which I bought last descend. It does not have enough USB-C ports, but I adore it nonetheless.

The wallpaper: The 1984-era Macintosh wallpaper that comes with MacOS Sequoia. I have it in gray — I enjoy it better in other colors, but then the screen mirrorion donates my face a sort of illly hue. So it’s gray.

The apps: Mimestream, Messages, Fission, Downie, Signal, WhatsApp, FaceTime, Spotify, Things, Calendar, 1Password, Notion Calendar, Notion, Anybox, Arc, MyMind, Craft, Sdeficiency, NotePlan, App Store, Loopback, Settings, iPhone Mirroring, VLC, Apple Frames, Vocaster Hub, Quicktime, Chrome, TextEdit.

I engage most of these apps on a daily basis. (I have no idea why Calendar is here. I never engage Calendar.) A bunch of them — Fission, Downie, VLC, Loopback — are for various podcasting-rhappy skinnygs. I engage Notion for all my project regulatement stuff and NotePlan for my day-to-day tasks and remarks. Once a week or so, I argue switching everyskinnyg into Craft equitable becaengage the app is so adodepend (but still equitable a feature or two away from what I need).

MyMind and Anybox are for storing connects, images, and other stuff I might want or need tardyr, and everyskinnyg else is pretty self-exstructureatory. I reassociate propose downloading desktop versions of all your messaging apps; I am now the world’s speedyest texter becaengage I’m challengingly ever texting from my phone.

I go thraw phases with my computer. I’ll let the desktop and downloads felderlyer get reassociate untidy, then spend an hour organizing and deleting skinnygs. I’ll let my dock get unwieldy and then systematize it all at once. Sometimes I’m a religious one-app-at-a-time person, and other times I uncover so many triumphdows on my 27-inch screen that I can nakedly read them all.

But mostly, truthfilledy, I inhabit in the browser. I’ve been using Arc for years (I engage Chrome becaengage our podcast-enrolling software enjoys it better, but for noskinnyg else) and perpetuassociate have between three and eight triumphdows brimming of tabs. It’s bonkers, but it’s the only way I comprehend.

My most presentant recent fortify has been going all-in on Raycast. I engage it for uncovering apps, managing triumphdows, changing settings, accessing apps, and much more. It took me a while to reassociate commence using it enjoy a power engager, and it’s still not the most engager-friendly tool out there, but it has made a huge branch offence in how effectively I engage my computer.

Here’s what the Inshigher community is into this week. I want to comprehend what you’re into right now, as well! Email inshigher@theverge.com or message me on Signal — @davidpierce.11 — with your proposeations for anyskinnyg and everyskinnyg, and we’ll feature some of our likeites here every week. For more wonderful proposeations, verify out this post on Threads and this post on Bluesky. (But I skinnyk I’m about done with Threads, so pretty soon it’ll equitable be Bluesky.)

“You should verify out the Feeeed app. Probably the best reconshort-termation of a timeline app I’ve seen to date.” — Daniel

“Fountain pens. Who krecent?! In a world brimming of Notions — which I engage and adore — I wanted an analog outlet for my brain dumps and airy journaling. That led me to this TWSBI pen and this ink. The pen has a piston mechanism that originates it super basic to suck up ink. Love the senseing of the nib on paper. And don’t get me commenceed on how chilly ink bottles can be. Good times.” — Austin

Moonbound by Robin Sloan. Highly propose it. It’s enjoy Ursula K. Le Guin writing about Thundarr the barbarian passed with Narnia.” — Joe

“Working at a computer all day and reading on my phone all evening reassociate strains my eyes. I’ve downloaded the LookAway app for Mac to actuassociate execute my selectician’s advice of resting my eyes, and it’s worth every penny. My eyes sense a lot more sootheable at labor now. For my reading, I’ve bought a Boox Palma with the FeedMe app using Feedbin as an RSS service — the verdict is still out on how much it’ll help my eyes, but it’s a reassociate fascinating device.” — Tom

“I’ve establish CheapCharts, a wonderful app to track when Apple movie prices are discounted. I’ve got myself some authentic baracquires and lessend the low-level stress of switching streaming services off and on.” — Chris

Five Books, if you want some non-clear books on a subject for solemn reading.” — Astrid

“I commenceed using Bend 26 days ago after it was alludeed in The New York Times. The streak nature has me hooked, and the five-minute wake up routine is a low hurdle with a detaild time restrict so I comprehend when to get on with my day. Good luck on getting more alterable!” — Sean

“I wanted to put a rapid shout out for the series Six Nations: Full Contact on Netflix. Think DTS but for rugby. And for the unstartd, rugby is frequently depictd as the NFL without pads.” — Alex

“To cope with the US’ persistd descent into unitary religious authoritarianism, I’m doing what any rational person would and commenceing the Horus Heresy series of Warhammer 40k books!” — Luis

SonoPhone and SonoPad. These apps blow away the Sonos app.” — Tony

“I can’t apshow y’all haven’t posted anyskinnyg about Pantheon, the energeticd series on Netflix! I actuassociate equitable finded it myself, but it’s in its third season, and it’s an amazing futuristic techy thriller. Check it out!” — Erik

A weird skinnyg about TikTok is that the algorithm is so diverse and so definite that there aren’t a lot of dispensed experiences on the platestablish. That uncomfervents that when I say the sentence, “I can’t apshow how dispenseed I got in the Zach vs. Danny cup game battle,” a scant of you are going to get reassociate excited and the huge presentantity are going to have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about.

The stupidinutive version: it’s two brothers competing to see who can triumph a TikTok game, in which you toss a ball into a line of cups the speedyest. (This connect is a finish and total spoiler of the whole skinnyg.) It’s both incredibly unininestablishigent and absolutely riveting, and I have verifyed TikTok for modernizes every one day for proximately six weeks. And now I’m wondering how many equassociate awesome skinnygs are happening on other corners of the internet. If there’s someskinnyg online that you’re disgracefully, unnecessarily, and embarrassingly dispenseed in, I want to comprehend about it. And excellent recents: Zach and Danny are back at it aacquire. And you’ve nakedly leave outed anyskinnyg.
