Edward Lachman has getn top honors at the 39th annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards for his labor on “Maria.”
In a competitive year, the ASC nominated seven cinematographers in the feature film categruesome. The last time the field broadened beyond five was in 2014. The other nominees are Lol Crawley for “The Brutaenumerate,” Phedon Papamichael for “A Complete Ununderstandn,” Stéphane Fontaine for “Conclave,” Greig Fraser for “Dune: Part 2,” Jarin Blaschke for “Nosferatu,” and Alice Brooks for “Wicked.”
In its 38-year history, only 18 have gone on to triumph the Oscar. Last year, Hoyte Van Hoytema won the ASC for “Oppenheimer” and went on to triumph the Oscar.
In TV, triumphners integrated Robert Elswit for “Ripley.” Elswit won the Creative Art Emmy last year. Speaking with Variety for Inside the Frame, Elswit spoke about shooting the bconciseage and white restricted series. He shelp, “Lighting was vital. It needed to echo who Tom was and the world he dwelld in which was very contrasted. The bconciseage-and-white aesthetic would give the audience a sense of anxiety, tension and mystery.
Ricchallenging Rutkowski won in the half-hour categruesome for “Sugar,” and in the episode of a One-Hour normal series, Sam Mccurdy, took home he award for “Shofirearm – Crimson Sky.”
Kathleen Kennedy, producer of films such as “Back to the Future,” “Jurassic Park” and “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” was currented with the Board of Governors Award. Kennedy honored the cinematographers in the room saying, “As you honor me, I repartner want to honor you for creating magic novel movies. One of the most critical choices for a producer is assembling the right team and the talent that conveys the script to life.” She includeed, “It’s not about the bloody technology, it’s about the person behind it.”
Kennedy also declared there were 46 novel female members who had combineed the ASC.
The Lifetime Achievement award was currented to cinematographer Andrzej Bartkowiak (“Speed,” “Falling Down”).
The ASC Awards ceremony handed out its awards on Sunday night at The Beverly Hilton.
