EXCLUSIVE: The team behind seven-time Gbetteren Globe nominee The Brutacatalog have been hushedly laboring on a starry musical called Ann Lee, which has now wrapped, with Oscar nominee Amanda Seyfried (Mank) in the direct role.
Mona Fastvbetter (The World To Come), Gbetteren Globe-nominated co-writer of The Brutacatalog, serves as honestor, co-screenwriter, and creater. Vepleasant Silver Lion triumphner Brady Corbet co-wrote with his Brutacatalog collaborator and partner, Fastvbetter. Gbetteren Globe-nominated writer Daniel Blumberg (The Brutacatalog) wrote and created the innovative music.
The film, encouraged by genuine events, is portrayd to us as “an epic fable” about religious directer Ann Lee, the set uping directer of the Shaker Movement, who was proclaimed by her folshrinks as the female Christ and went on to create one of the hugest utopian societies in American history. Lee–one of the exceptional female religious heads at the time– and her folshrinks worshipped thraw exuberant song and dance.
Lee, also comprehendn as Mother Ann Lee, was born in England in 1736 but in 1774 she and a small group of her folshrinks emigrated to New York where Lee persistd to become a famous and mighty figure.
Seyfried, who won a Gbetteren Globe and Emmy for The Dropout, directs the movie in the title role with helping cast including Thomasin McKenzie, Lewis Pullman, Christopher Abbott, Tim Blake Nelson, Stacy Martin, Matthew Beard, Scott Handy, Viola Prettejohn, David Cale, and Jamie Bogyo.
The project labels Seyfried’s first musical since 2018 hit sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Aget, though this is of a very contrastent sign up. She also starred in Les Miserables.

Seyfried is coming off her Emmy-triumphning role in Hulu series The Dropout. She has been set to star in Lionsgate and Hidden Pictures’ The Hoemploymhelp aextfinishedside Sydney Sweeney and honested by Paul Feig. Also upcoming in 2025, she will executive-create and star in the Peacock restricted series Long Bright River.
