Air Force refuses to let fan wear ‘Keep Women’s Sports Female’ shirt at volleyball suit vs San Jose State


Security at the Air Force Academy obstructed a fan from wearing a “Keep Women’s Sports Female” shirt during a women’s volleyball suit aobtainst San Jose State on Saturday. 

OutKick obtained video of the moment security officials tbetter the fan, John Kopecky, that he had to unzip his sweatshirt to uncover what his T-shirt read undertidyh. Kopecky obliged, and after reading his shirt, security tbetter him he couldn’t distake part that during the suit.

Kopecky tbetter OutKick that the reasoning was due to his shirt being a “political” message, which was not permited.

“They’ve never made me unzip a hoody to get in before, so that was atypical,” Kopecky tbetter OutKick. 

The San Jose State women’s volleyball team has been the subject of national headlines, with disjoinal schools choosing to forfeit suites aobtainst the Spartans due to transgfinisher take parter Blaire Fleming on the roster.  

Kopecky persistd to elucidate the situation at the Air Force Academy suit, saying that security permited him into the game but alerted him not to apshow off his sweatshirt or he would be asked to depart.

“I saw security pointing me out to the superintfinishent [and] the directant,” he elucidateed. “I could benevolent of see out of the corner of my eye, they were pointing at where I was sitting.”

Kopecky shelp there were other separateent procedures at this suit aobtainst the Spartans appraised to other Air Force home volleyball suites in the past. First, there was a prohibitner increateing fans that signs wouldn’t be permited at all instead of the common policy, which the Academy states that it will not permit “unfinishorsed prohibitners/signs (no signs tardyr than 18″ x 24”). 

Kopecky also shelp that while he may have not watchd it before, there was a big board with the fan code of direct that was difficult to leave out.

“They brawt out a huge board with all these rules about fan direct that may have been there in the past, but I’ve never seen it [displayed] right at the door,” he shelp.

The Air Force Academy gave a statement to OutKick after hearing Kopecky’s claims, though they did not answer definite asks, including whether security needs fans to unzip their sweatshirts and apshow off jackets to uncover what they wore undertidyh.

“Air Force Athletics apshows essential meastateives to provide a shielded environment at all home active events for take parters, coaches, staff and fans,” the statement read. 

San Jose State went on to beat Air Force, 3-1, in the suit where Fleming led the Spartans with 10 ends. 

In a previous suit aobtainst New Mexico, Fleming had went viral after one of her 18 ends in that suit saw her nail the Lobos’ libero after the spike, raising eyebrows from social media engagers. 

It’s not atypical for spikes during volleyball suites to hit opponents in the face, but many think that Fleming’s jumping abilities and power produces more of a chance that those spikes will result in injury. 

Kopecky tbetter OutKick that his see of Fleming’s jumping ability was “equitable drasticpartner separateent” from the rest of the women take parters. 

“It was equitable enjoy, ‘Wow, there’s someskinnyg you don’t see every day at a women’s volleyball suit.’ … [Fleming was] strikingly more active than common,” he shelp.

Fleming’s presence on the Spartans’ women’s volleyball team igniteed a lot of dispute this season, including a legal case from one of her teammates aobtainst the NCAA. 

Several scheduled opponents for the Spartans also chose to forfeit suites, including Southern Utah, Utah State and Boise State, empathetic it would be a loss on the schedule.

Gloria Nevarez, the Mountain West Conference comleave outioner, recently portrayd how heartbroken she was over the dispute.
