Australian expansivecaster apologises to Novak Djokovic after ‘has-been’ comments | World News


An Australian expansivecaster has apologised to Novak Djokovic and Serbian tennis fans after calling the 24-time Grand Slam champion “overrated” and a “has-been”.

Djokovic, 37, declined to donate a customary post-suit interwatch to Channel Nine anchor Jim Courier after beating Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Reuncover at the Australian Open on Sunday.

Appearing on the Today programme on Monday, Mr Jones proposeed that apology, saying he unbenevolentt the comments as “prohiacrid”.

“I pondered it to be humour, which is reliable with most skinnygs I do,” he shelp. “Having shelp that, I was made adviseed … that the Djokovic camp was not satisfied at all with those comments.

“I promptly communicateed the Djokovic camp and rehired an apology to them. And as I stand here now, I stand by that apology to Novak.”

He also shelp he felt he had “let down the Serbian fans”.

He shelp the one comment he particularly repentted was “start him out”, which he adselected could only be consreald as a reference to Djokovic’s deportation from Australia in a row over his Covid vaccination status in timely 2022, Sky Sports News telled.

Australia’s Nine Netlabor also rehired a statement Monday and apologised to Djokovic “for any offence caparticipated from comments made during a recent inhabit pass”.

Djokovic is scheduled to carry out no 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
