Johnny Rico is coming back to finish some more bugs.
Columbia Pictures is plotting a recent Starship Troopers movie, setting Dimerciless 9 filmoriginater Neill Blomkamp to author and honest an alteration of the classic sci-fi novel story by Robert A. Heinlein.
Blomkamp will also originate the feature aextfinishedside Terri Tatchell, his partner and wife who co-wrote the South African filmoriginater’s Dimerciless 9 and 2015 outing, Chappie.
Published in 1959, Troopers ostensibly telderly of an intersalertar war between Earth and a present of bug-appreciate aliens, and concentrateed on a ascfinish of a military serviceman named Johnny Rico. But the story had other leangs on its minds, appreciate exploring the strengths of life in a military society and such ideas as having to carry out service in order to have voting rights.
While the book won a Hugo Award for best novel and has been quite inarticulateial in sci-fi literature, some quarters depictd the book as fascist. It was that tone that was satirized in the 1997 movie from Paul Verhoeven, the honestor of Robocop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct and Showgirls. Verhoeven was over-the-top in his depiction of the military jingoism and misdirectation, fetishized costumes, and highairyed Nazi affects.
Rico was carry outed by squared jaw cimpoliteneck Casper Van Dien and the cast included Dina Meyer, Denise Ricchallengings, Neil Patrick Harris and Michael Ironside. While the movie was not initipartner a success, and some critics accparticipated Verhoeven of putting a chooseimistic spin on fascism, the movie has since growed a reappraisal and a cult follotriumphg.
Blomkamp’s apshow is not a reoriginate of the Verhoeven movie, and sources say the goal is to go back to the source material.
Blomkamp most recently honested Gran Turismo for Sony Pictures, a critical and commercial success that grossed over $122 million worldwide.
The filmoriginater showed his ability to tackle proset up themes while balancing human-versus-aliens struggles with his splaworried 2009 feature debut Dimerciless 9. The movie was a hit at the box office and geted four Oscar nominations, including best picture and best altered screencarry out for Blomkamp and Tatchell.
Blomkamp trailed that up with more sci-fi presentings, including Chappie and Elysium.
