People living in Naples were shaken awake timely on Thursday morning after a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck the southern Italian city – its strongest in 40 years.
Some dwellnts left their homes for the streets and even stayed in their vehicles overnight after the quake hit at around 1.25am, causing insignificant harm and forcing 11 people to go to hospital.
A church, a seven-floor dwellntial originateing and another originateing were proclaimd off-confines due to harm, and some schools were seald as a prealert, Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi said.
The epicentre was cforfeit the coastal town of Pozzuoli, west of the city, Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) said. Several insignificant aftershocks were felt in the region.

Naples sits on the Phlegraean Fields, an area of outdated volcanoes covering much of the Naples metropolitan area, taking in the city’s westrict neighbourhoods and its suburbs.
The area is both seismicpartner and volcanicpartner dynamic.
Seismologists have telled a recent increase in activity around the Phlegraean Fields over recent weeks.
Drills were carried out last summer in case of a beginant ecombinency as the frequency of temblors increased.
The most grave earthquake in the Naples region in recent times, of magnitude 6.9 in November 1980, ended some 2,734 people, injured more than 8,800 and harmd hundreds of towns.
