Daniel Zovatto on Playing Serial Killer Rodney Alcala in Woman of the Hour

ComingSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler Treese spoke to Woman of the Hour star Daniel Zovatto about joining serial ender Rodney Alcala in Anna Kfinishrick’s straightforwardorial debut. Zovatto talked the character’s complicatedity, filming The Dating Game scenes, and more. Based on an incredible genuine story, it debuts on Netflix on October 18.

“The stranger-than-fantasy story of an ambitious actress in 1970s Los Angeles and a serial ender in the midst of a yearslengthy killing spree, whose lives intersect when they’re cast on an episode of The Dating Game,” says the synopsis.

Tyler Treese: I experience enjoy it’s an odd allotment where, as an actor, you’re trying to find the humanity of a character, but you’re joining such a depraved individual and one with such complicated emotions. He fair sits there sobbing sometimes instead of finishing his ends. Did you ever experience enjoy you had a filled benevolent of this character, or how was that experience?

Daniel Zovatto: I unbenevolent, truthfilledy, you fair try to do your best. You try to do the hometoil and get to understand this guy and the triggers, his uptransporting, and his childhood. Everyskinnyg. You fair benevolent of put it all inside of you. Then you fair jump in and join, you understand?

I had Anna next to me, who is an actress and now she’s a straightforwardor, but she was there. She understands the process. She understands that sometimes you need space. She was repartner excellent at that and repartner beneficial. It fair apexhibited me to step into this guy’s skin and join around every day and have the depend of the straightforwardor, who’s encouraging to hold going.

What also was astonishive about how you joined the character was that, fair enjoy the victims, you benevolent of lured the audience with a downtempo. Then there are fair these moments where Rodney fair snaps. How is it fair switching up that intensity? It comes so suddenly.

It was fun, man. It’s one of those skinnygs, zero to a hundred. It could be the way that he shelp someskinnyg and he didn’t enjoy how he shelp it, or it could be the way that somebody reacted to what he shelp, you understand? I skinnyk it’s fair a skinnyg that originates him fascinating. It’s someskinnyg that I thought about and wanted to join around with. Aacquire, Anna was enjoy, “Let’s try it all.” It was chilly, man. It was fun as an actor.

They wonderfilledy reoriginated The Dating Game set, which sees phenomenal in the film. How was that whole experience? Becaengage it sees enjoy a time capsule. It’s incredible.

Dude, that was one of my preferite pieces to film becaengage they built the set. I unbenevolent, it seeed amazing. The stage shifts, the airys, they even have the anciaccess cameras from that era. But we sboiling it enjoy a join, which was repartner chilly. I skinnyk it was enjoy a 20-page scene, at least, from the moment Tony comes in, the show commences, the contestants are uncignoreed, and then Anna’s character, Cheryl, comes in.

We did that whole skinnyg enjoy a join. We never cut. We fair went thcimpolite the whole show. We rehearsed it during the weekfinish, and then we spent enjoy a whole week or a week and a half doing that portion of the movie. So it felt enjoy we were in the show. It felt enjoy it was a join. It didn’t experience enjoy it was little pieces cut together. So, it was repartner chilly, and I had a blast with the boys. It was fun, man.
