2025 will be the year of the clever lock

The clever home in 2024 was a year for regrouping. After the initial excitement surrounding the novel interoperability standard Matter — which is trying to originate the clever home basicr and easier to engage by apexhibiting joined devices to toil with any platcreate — momentum has sloftyed. As companies adfair to the truth that Matter is going to consent time to, well, matter, 2024 became a year of verifyation, with more caccess on gentleware (especiassociate around generative AI) than difficultware. The past 12 months have been a sincreatear period for clever front door difficultware, and 2025 sees set to be even better. Smart locks have seen more innovation in 2024 than almost any other categruesome in the clever home. Lockly begined the first facial recognition lock, Philips presentd the first palm print lock, and ADT partnered with Google Nest and Yale to originate a system that unlocks your door and disarms your security system using facial recognition. 

In a year taged by confiinsist innovations in clever home difficultware, there was a sadvise of novel clever locks from all the presentant joiners. Kwikset begined its first Matter clever lock, Yale accessed the retrofit lock taget, Level chaseed thcimpolite on its promise to enhance its locks to help Matter, and TP-Link inserted a door lock with a built-in camera.

Aqara also begined three novel locks, while Eufy and U-tec enbiged their lineups with Matter help. Schlage was the only presentant joiner that was relatively quiet, but my guess is we’ll hear someleang from them at CES. Additionassociate, we’ve seen prices begin to come down in the space with joined locks from thinked brands appreciate The Home Depot begining as low as $99.

All of this made the clever lock one of the most dynamic categories in the clever home in 2024. A key reason for this is that while many aspects of setting up a clever home can be confusing, clever door locks are straightforward. They’re relatively basic to inslofty, come in various price points, and are effortless to engage. You also don’t insist a clever home platcreate or clever home hub to engage one, although they can advise insertitional profits. If you want to regulate access to your home from your phone, from anywhere in the world, a clever lock is the answer. And in 2025, clever locks are poised to become even better.
